New Aramith Cue Ball?

I am wondering if its just a natural "yellowing" or perhaps when the ball is baked or however the ball is made perhaps they just come out different shades....(kind of like wood)

My guess would be that it's a different type of material as I felt a weight & playability difference with the yellowish ball as opposed to the whiter ones I've seen with the "TV" ball set. If I remember correctly, someone told me once that the yellowish Pro Cup balls were an older variant of the product.

They were $29.00 ....I could not pull the trigger on the purchase....

I can't blame you there. I think the prices that I've seen quite a few vendors asking for them are just ridiculous IMO. Personally, I'll be sticking with the red circle cue ball that I use with my SA Pros.

Interesting. The "squiggly S" cue ball is the Aramith Logo cue ball I mention that is the standard cue ball in the Super Pro set (You have to buy the advantage set to get the Pro Cup cue ball.)

According to my Mueller's catalog the pro cup ball comes standard with the SA Pro "TV" balls and the SA Pro set that includes the ball cleaner and Rempe training cue ball. I didn't see it for individual sale in their catalog but I'm sure there are other vendors who do carry it for sale, though it will likely be at a much inflated price. The squiggly S SA Pro cue ball is still available for individual sale in the Mueller's catalog.

Speaking of the SA Pro "TV" balls, I had the chance to try them out a few months ago and I have to say my first impression was favorable. As a result, I am considering making an upgrade (if you can call it that) over to them and selling my current set of SA Pros minus my red circle cue ball.

I have had the exact opposite of your experience, both the Pro Cup balls and the Aramith Logo balls I have seen were the whiter color, and my Red Circle is the darker. Can Aramith really have this much variation?

If my experience is any indicator, then I'd have to say yes. It's not the first time a company has put out variants of its own product and I'm sure it won't be the last time either.

Is there any difference between the TV Super Pro set and the regular Super Pro set except the color of the 4 and 7?

i was watching some of the BCA Tournament on ESPN yesterday and did my eyes deceive me or was that a new "Measles-Type" cue ball that they were playing with?

or was it the same measles cue ball they have been using for a few years now?

DCP
Yes, there is a new "measle ball"... Saluc has been using a new manufacturing technique for applying the red dots since they started offering it solo blister packed. That is why they look different. Previously, these dots were injection molded (expensive). Now, they are layered (cheap). They start with a small (roughly 1 3/4") white phenolic ball, apply the dots to the exterior and then coat the outside of the ball with a clear resin. THEN they grind it into a ball for keeping their close tolerances. because of the difference in technique, you will notice a "halo" type shadowing effect around the red dots of the NEW measle ball. Compared to the old style where the red dots actually penetrate the entire diameter of the ball.

The only thing I can compare the "TV" balls to are the set of SA Pros I currently use which I believe are an older set. It seemed to me that they used a different material on the TV ball set I played with as the balls themselves felt a touch lighter when I held them in my hands as opposed to the balls in my current SA set.

If I had to guess how old my SA ball set is, it would be of the manufacturing run that came with the cue ball with the triangle logo on it. Don't get me wrong though, I'm still content with my current SA set and I do think the SA Pro's are the best ball set available on the market IMO. Any upgrade I make will have to be when I can afford the extra dollars to get a set from either Mueller's or another vendor.
