Here is my new Burton Spain blank cue made from a full-length full splice blank, not a point blank. Ebony into a spectacular piece of birdseye that also has a lot of curl in it. The veneers are white/purple/brown/black inside to out. All white is ivory, wrap is smooth black leather. NOT FOR SALE.

You know, I usually don't like cues with that much going on in them but there's something about this one that appeals to me. Good score!!

Burt,

Nice cue... I know this one.. :love2: , I am sure you will like it, especially hitting with it...

It does play very nicely, this is my first Ivory jointed cue that I've liked the hit of. For whatever reason, I couldn't get used to the Ivory joint on one of my other cues, so I had it cut off and replaced with my standard phenolic with a stainless collar and it was fine. Thankfully, I'm able to do what I want with the ivory joint on this one.

I've always wanted a Burton Spain cue, not only because he was a great cuemaker, but because my name is Burton. I still haven't managed to get my hands on a true Spain cue, but this will fill the need quite nicely until I do.

By the way, I'd love to see pictures of any Spain cues you folks out there have hidden away.

I can't post a before picture, because this cue has been completed since 1997 and I wasn't even playing pool then. I had been talking with Allen Hung about his Spain blank cue that PFD did, and since he's local, I contacted him and asked if he had any others. This is one I recognized from when his website was up. When he pulled it from the closed it had a uni-loc joint on it, so I had him convert it to the Ivory joint and radial pin.

I saw the one Allen has in Paul's shop before it went out, and it really is spectacular, but with it being an overseas transaction and the amount of Ivory in that cue, I decided it was in my best interest to buy locally. From Allen's post, I would not doubt if he owned this cue at some point and traded it in towards something else. This butt of this cue is actually featured on the March page of the Cuemakers calendar that was out around 2003, but it had a white wrap on it at that point. A very similar cue is also featured in the newest Blue Book, but that one is not a Spain Blank, it was completely built by Paul.

I purposely didn't mention that Paul had done it (even though it is in my signature line) because for whatever reason a lot of people on here seem biased against him and I wanted an honest reaction based on the cue itself.
I have 7 cues from Paul, and I couldn't be happier with the service I get from him and the quality of his work.

By the way, this cue is living quite happily in the genuine alligator case that RBirk1 had posted a couple weeks ago.

Also, I believe he has maybe 1 or 2 unconverted blanks left if anyone is interested, I just couldn't wait.

Thank you for all the compliments on this cue, it will see a lot of use and will be the pride of my collection for many years.

Paul always make the cue with very nice solid ivory joint. Actually, I had over 7 PFD's and all are with ivory joint. All of them play very well. I love my Burton Spain blank PFD.. I also love to try other cues made by different cuemarkers.

I'm looking forward to the day when some of my other cues show up too, particularly the Hercek and Southwest. Most of the people where I play don't have custom cues, but I've had the chance to hit some balls with a Balabushka, 2 Gus Cues, SW, Scruggs, Capone, Several Rauenzahn Cues, Carmeli, Webb, and Kucharski. Most of these cues are owned by only 3 people, so I don't get to try something new unless they get something new. They are all nice cues for the price points they cater to though.

I'd also really like to add a Fanelli to my collection at some point, that is one man that is at the top of his game.
