ok, i am getting my new Simonis 860 installed this saturday. going with the Powder Blue, but the installer is also bringing Simonis Green along in case i dont like the Powder Blue when i see it in person.

But, how do i tell him in a nice way to make sure he gets it stretched really tight? this guy is one of the best there is, and Mark Wilson said he would absolutely let him work on his tables.

i dont want to insult the guy, and if i say "make sure you stretch that real tight" i would probably offend him. but if i dont, and he just stretches it "tight enough" i would probably kick myself in the a-- later.

ideas men?

Just say the last time you put cloth on your table, that it wasnt tight enough for you, ask him he has been refered to you by many people and you would like it tight as possible. That is how i would do it.

Tell him you want your table to play fast, he'll figure it out.

This reminds me of a little story about how I offended the mechanic who set up my table in th enew house. He pulled out a Starrett 98-12 level and I commented on what a nice piece of equipment it was. His response was 'It better be for $700'. I couldn't help myself and let out a guffaw. I asked him if he paid that much and he said no, he bought it used (but did not say how much he paid). I pulled out a few catalogs and showed him what a nice new Starrett 98-12 cost and he went white. Thankfully he finished the table and did not hit me either.

I'd make a comment like "thank God you're here!! The last time I had it covered it wasn't tight at all, and I heard you can get this sucker tighter than anyone!"

well, thanks for the ideas, but this is the SAME guy that did it last year. and i dont think he stretched it REAL REAL TIGHT last year, just tight enough.

Then put it this way.

"Can you please stretch it as tight as you can? I'd greatly appreciate it. The tighter the better."

You are paying for his services, therefore you should be able to say how you want it.

Why not ask him, the expert, how tight he thinks it should be? Maybe "real" tight is too tight, and he had a reason for leaving it a little loose last time.

Ask questions about it beforehand so you both know what the deal is and go from there, imho.

Go green...I have powder blue and it is OK, but my game changes when I go to a green table after having practiced on my powder blue. I'm not sure exactly why, but the color affects my aiming somehow until I'm used to the green cloth that seems to be everywhere. I don't know if this would affect your game, but it does mine, and is something to think about.

hey ChefJeff?
does the powder blue that you have on your table look like it does on TV during the Mosconi Cup shows? or did it look closer to the sample you saw?

just curious, the powder blue i see on the Mosconi Cup shows doesnt look quite like my sample.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, I was talking just about the color, not the brand, of my cloth. Not having Simonis, I can't answer your question.

Let us know how you like it as I'm needing to replace mine, too, and have been considering fast cloth.
