Here is a new cue I picked up a couple of weeks ago, haven?t had much chance to play with this badboy yet but here is a review of the cue.

I commissioned this cue to be made around 6 months ago I can?t be exact as to be honest I can?t really remember.

Anyway,

Forearm: Purpleheart ,3 high 3 low , 3 veneers

Joint: Linen

Butt: Purpleheart, maple ring

Shafts: Straight grain maple, ?? melamine ferrules, Kamui Med tips

Weight
The weight of this cue is 19.2 oz, the balance comes in at around 19? from the butt cap. Not the usual 18.5? I usually play with. Surprisingly it didn?t make a great difference, however the distribution feels good in my hands, I was pleasantly surprised.

Shaft
The shaft was Dense and played very well. It's is a standard SW taper and it has a responsive with a clean crisp hit, able to put lots of spin on the cueball & actually has quite Low Deflection qualities too. Believe it or not these shafts come in at over 4 oz?s ??..some serious lumber.

Ferrule
The ferrule is a LBM ferrule however it has been cut to ?? instead of the standard 1? ferrule.

Butt
The butt is using a compound butt taper feels extremely good

As far as a review on how well it plays?????.i think its best if I let Blowfish finish the report as he has more time playing with this cue than me.

Oh and yes the cue maker is Kenny Murrell, I had him make me this cue as a wedding gift to myself, he engraved the pin with my wife?s name on it.

Blowfish ????..please help me write a real review

Thanks

My Opinion

i love kenny's cues .. they all play great .. have tried 3 and have never been disappointed...

it is just one of those you can pick up and shoot with ... no adjustments required ... it is a true player ... gets the job done, and gets it done well !

if you have the skill, the cue will perform - performance is flawless...

Roy, you know what to say do you. ;)

I'm partial to Purpleheart and to Kenny's cues. All the Murrell's that I've hit with are just amazing. Very nice hitters. As Kam says, very minimal adjustments and you'll get alone with the cue well.

This cue, I got alone well off the bat. The balance and weigth was evenly and well distributed. The hit... it was so good, firm and boardering into being stiff. The shaft wood was topnotch and with a Micarta ferrule, I can't say anything more. That's why I love Purpleheart cues.

Gman,

You are right i am partial to SW cue's. The problem i find with them is the levels of consistency. Some hit like monster, some hit great and other hit like *&$#

One of the best i have owned was an ebony and Pau ferro cue i brought from Matty...............however, i sold like an idiot in a moment of madness.

Kenny's cue hit very very consistent and this cue is made very much to a sw spec. The kicker is it cost a hell of a lot less than a sw with no waiting list.

Thanks
