bill that is something i whole heartedly agree on.....im just amazed at how some guys jump out there and try to get top dollar for their work and then sit and wonder what the hells the problem with selling a cue......and i cant figure out why people make crappy cues with all the resources available....and then they opt in some cases to buy cheap cue and then wonder why they warp or dont play so good.....as you said you get what you pay for
Hey Justin, hope all is going well.
SOUNDS LIKE SOME SO-CALLED CUEMAKERS..
It's like I have posted many times before. Many, think they got it down patt.... Especially those who don't even have a shop to call there own.
One can work for years in anothers shop, and this would not qualify him as a cuemaker.
Students or Puplis,
Some guys who become cuemakers, and as soon as his wings spread just a little bit, he knows all...Seen this happen so many times with new cuemakers coming up.
Cuemakers who have there own shop, make calls on how, when, and what will or will not look good, and pay attention to what the customers needs are, ect. ect.....
A student,or pupil, or just a guy who cuts woods, can not make these calls. If and when he gets his own place, will he call it the same? "NO"...All of the sudden he's way smarter than all cuemakers....He's got a better way.
After about 1 year, they all of the sudden know everything. Just like some who don't even have a shop.
Some try to convince others that they know what they are talking about, they don't, but have many convinced. But they continue to post as if they knew. They think they know all. They try to build a reputation by posting about cues and what it takes to build them.
There's a lot of differance from talking about building cues, [ and helping to build cues], and building cues, on your own. If and when you branch out on your own, things will change, and you will constantly be learning new things and better ways to do things. Which is good..
JUSTIN, You were here at my shop, and saw first hand what it really takes. You said, that it blew your mind as to how much really went into building quality cues.
THEY JUST DON'T KNOW DO THEY, JUSTIN?
Many of these guys are as some call, "starters', or wanna-be's, from the get- go. Nothing wrong with that either.
Talk is cheap!
I'll take either you or Don Purdy, and have a cue build off with any others who want to get in. Just teach you or Don cuemaking and then have a build off with others. Should be lots of fun. Let's do it within about a week. This way none gets a head start learning.Everyone arrives the same day.No cheating....
The only thing that we could not allow, is the so-called-HIT. To many people feel a cue differantly. Wouldn't be fair for anyone. For workmanship, looks, style, I'll take you and or Don Purdy....
The other team can come here and use my equipment, as you two will. I'll teach all of you for free. This way all have the same chance. They use what they have learned from me and there faviorte cuemaker, as you two will.
State of the art stuff. A good cuemaker, wanna-be or not, can walk in anyone's shop and use his equipment, and build quality cues.[ I'll let all of you folks stay in either of the guest houses for free].....This includes food, and cold beer.
I'll furnish all the woods, and everything. .
[Come on down VH, you sir, know your welcome]. You can help me with the beer, after work hours.
I would like to see how these guys fair with either of you. Just let us see what they can do. They been doing this for a long time. I assume, from the way one of them writes.
What do you think, Justin and Don?
