my friend here in new york is coming out with his own line of pool cues this spring. they will be classics. going up in value each year. there is a chance, he will be considered one of the all time greats of pool cue makers. his name is joe franke prounounced frank-e. his father is very handy, and handed down the skills to joe. for years and years, he was doing all the work on all our cues here in new york. ferruels, tips, shaft cleaning etc, etc. in fact when jeanette lee was in n.y. recently, he was the "official" cue man for the carom cafe 3-cushion tournament. jeanette was in town, just to check out the tournament. joe worked for over an hour on cleaning one shaft!!!!! that's the type of work he does, she said, "i've never had my shaft, feel like this, let me have your card" anyhow he decided to come out with his own cues, made completly differently than anyone elses out there. look for them in the third addition of the blue book of pool cues coming out this spring, by sue bachman. his cues are called joeseph full spliced cues. these cues are made with a full splice, the single most difficult process. 99% of all cue makers refuse to make full splice cues because of the time and cost involved. the full splice makes the cue play like a one piece, very stiff and solid. the pin that connects the butt to the shaft, is unbelievable! gigantic, it dwarfs all other pins, and is made out of titaniam for zero weight! the wrap will be leather, the ferruell ivory, the outer joints wood to wood, and the shaft will have what joe calls "negitive deflection" the tip will be le professional. check out these cues, and remeber you heard it here first. joeseph full splice negitive deflection custom cues, bayside new york.

yes, i have his ph#, but i forgot what he said his web site was, joesephcustomcues.com ???? i feel i can't give his # out, just yet. you understand.

What kind of price range and waiting time are we looking at here?

just got off the phone with joe and he said, he doesn't want the info to "leak out" tell people to pick up the 3rd. edition of the blue book of pool cues in the spring. however he did mange to say that his ferrull will be ivory with a fibre backing. nylon wrap, rather than leather, and wood that is totally aged like no other, so it's perfectly straight. he will take no custom orders and will only be making 8 cues a year. the hardwoods will be exotic, such as snakewood. his designs will be streamlined and perfect, nothing fancy, almost in the style of gus samzbotti. these cues will range from $1,200 to $2,200.

I guess I have to change my name now.:D
That's a ton of hyperbole.
Full-splice cues were done because it offered more gluing surface during the days when epoxy did not exist and they used horse glue or wood glue.
If full splice cues took more time and money, I wonder why all house cues are done this way.
Of course, those Hercek and Szambotti cues are beautiful and reputedly have great hit.
But, that has to do more with wood selection than full-splicing imo.
Btw, what's NEW about full-splicing?
