I went to Snooker's last night and we finalized the Hall of Fame details.

The ceremony will start on Friday evening, March 12, at 6pm.

The following two days we will be having the first annual, New England Hall of Fame and Ray Desell Memorial, tournament. Snooker's is adding $2500 to the event. It's a race to nine, double elimination, $100 entry fee.

I got a preview of the work Steve has done last night and it looks amazing. First class all the way.

Please come and support our efforts. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Is there an official website for your Hall? I'd like to check it out in general, and more specifically, to see if you have any info on someone that a good friend of mine went to college with at the University of Maine back in the 60's. The players name is Willie Maynard, and my friend says he was the best player he ever saw in person. Apparently he was ranked quite high collegiately, at a national level, not just regionally. I was gonna add it to the list of "who doesn't Jay know" questions, but a New England connection seems far more appropriate. (Jay can help if he knows, too ;) )

My friend chuckles when he hears me talk about reading something or other on this site, so I would love to use this resource to give him an answer! :grin-square: Perhaps this summer I might even get a chance to prowl down your way if the family takes a vacation to Boston as we often do. Either way, thanks, and good luck with the project.

Justadub:

If it's the same Will Maynard (my guess is yes), he can occasionally be found at Pool Table Magic in Windsor Locks, CT. I played Will a couple of weeks ago. He is an absolute gentleman and one person that I will always look forward to playing.

Tom:
Have you posted the full list of those previously inducted? I was curious if Hal and Ray Guilbeault and Herbie Lehman have made the cut. All worthy opponents.

Very cool, and thanks.

Herb Lehman is in. Hal, I never knew of, Ray is definitely a candidate. I asked for help remembering and also finding people. Thanks for remembering Ray and his brother. It would help to know where I can locate them or family members.

Tom:
Hal was Ray's dad. Ray passed away in December of '99 after a multi-year bout with cancer. Hal passed away a year or two later. I didn't know the rest of the family well and have no contact info. There were two lady friends who were very important in his life, but sadly, I've lost touch with them. Ray won the CT straight pool championship a number of years and finished 19th in the US open straight pool tournament ~1976.

He was a friend, and I miss him.

Regards,
Roger

Hi justadub, I was at the Univ. of Maine from 1964-1968 and played intercollegiate pool. I still love playing straight pool today. What's your real name?

I sent you a private message. Thanks for replying to this...pretty cool

Do either of you guys remember Dave Murray from Maine? I think I have the name right. He was the best player I saw north of MA back in the 70's, but I have not heard of him for years...
