New Guy, New Table

Greeting All, I am posting this here because above all I love to tinker with stuff and feel I have more in common with the folks in this particular forum than the "Serious" players and competition players. Old guy here 58, played a little bar pool back in the day, nothing special. Have not played for 15-20 years. So, anyway, I have this weird ass shaped room in my house that I have not been able to figure out what to do with. It dawned on me a month ago that it would be the perfect size and shape for a Valley table. I started shopping, not real serious, no real hurry. well on Friday I saw a very nice looking early 90s table for $600.00. It was 4 hours away so I wasn't interested. Turns out I was the only guy that seemed remotely serious that called him out of dozens of calls so he lowered the price to $300.00, I packed up the son, the wife and the SIL and drove to Jacksonville. Trying to play it cool but actually very excited about it. Today, I own a pool table. I made the trip just based on some so-so photos so I was worried. Everything About the table seems true, straight and level. The only flaw is that the table is one of the maple colors and the ball door is a different wood laminate. Anyway, going to be getting this cleaned up and leveled.

Id like to thank all you guys posting here. I did a ton of research lurking on here. I have read hours of threads in this forum enough so that I felt very confident driving 4 hours, inspecting a table myself, loading a table myself (with help)and moving it 4 hours back to my place. Thanks Ya'll.

So I got this thing home and set up and sort of level. It is absolutely the SLOWEST table I have ever seen. The cloth seems super thick, and honesty a little loose. My SIL said that might be from sitting outside in the humidity for 2 days and it might tighten up and get better on inside and it dries out. I think it needs new cloth and cushions. I'm thinking about cloth and rails from Penguin. Any negatives on buying from them?

Service has gone down hill since they sold to Seyberts, but still your best bet.

Good product. We've done business with Penguin many times. Not since the Seyberts buy out though.

Ridgeback rails are another option.
