I just recieved my new Joss today, I dont have any pics up yet but you can see it here: http://www.josscues.com/html/cues/07-21.html

I ordered the cue 19 oz, 13mm tip with a Morri Soft tip. The cue was packaged very well and was in perfect condition, I couldnt wait so I hopped in my car and went to play... I must admitt this Joss felt really stiff the first 2 hours and I wasnt playing very good at all, worst I have played in a while, the last hour I suppose the tip finaly broke in and I was starting to get some decent spin, but it still feels somewhat stiff. My friend was with me and he owns a base model Joss and the hit was softer for sure with the standard tip. So I am thinking of changing the tip to a triangle.

Ive used Morri Soft tips for awhile, but that has to be the hardest soft Morri ever. It feels like a super hard water buffalo and the there is very little give in the shaft and this makes for a super stiff cue. I am very pleased with the cue, but that Morri has to go. I swapped shafts with my friend and it felt really good, so its definately the tip.

The new 2007 series Joss is a very good well made cue, but unless you like a stiff hit I wouldnt have a Morri tip installed.

Again I thank Dan Janes for unparalelled support, I will own my new Joss for a long time, but that morri isnt my cup of tea, as much as I hate to cut a new tip off this Morri is headed for the trash. Shame because the tip was installed perfect, and it looks really good, but damn, that thing is hard.

Congradulations SPINDOKTOR, you have just purchased one of the finest production cues made today. Dan has been around a long time and worked with Bill Stroud and Tim Scruggs. Not bad company if you are a cue maker. I am beginning a small business in a sports cafe with 9 tables and Joss is the cue I will be selling. I have an order ready for Dan and am happy with his cues. I have owned a couple and worked on more. He has been very consistant over the years.

snice cue! you can't go wrong with a Joss! like you I can't play well with super hard tips. I use Triangle as well and the only way to explain why is I like the cueball to be "ON" the tip longer to do what I want to do with the shot. don't forget in a box of any tips there are "harder" and "softer" ones. I had one put on last weekend and I told the mechanic to give me the hardest Triangle he had. It took about 2 hours to "compress" then it was perfect. I still need to spin it to clean up the mushroom but that is normal.

Some day a very smart person will develope a tip that needs no chalk and can be ordered at any hardness you like!.....

SPINDOKTOR,

FWIW, when I first tried the Moori Medium tip, I didn't like it at first. I left it on and now weeks later I have come around to liking it. I guess it just needed some "break-in" time.

It's probably too late, as you have most likely already cut the Moori soft tip off. But I would have hung with it a little longer to see if it would get better.

I have a few Joss cues. Just an FYI, I have found that I prefer them to be turned down to about 12.75 instead of the 13mm. It will soften the hit up a little and give you a lot more action on the cueball. You should probably try changing the tip first to see if that gives you the hit you are looking for, if not then have it turned down a little.

I passed it along

I passed along the link to this thread to Dan Janes. Part of his reply to my email was, "Thanks for the link. You're right its always nice to hear something good."

Well thanks Bill, Dan E-mailed me, said he would change the tip and wouldnt charge me, I cant do that because I ask for the morri tip to be installed, Dan couldnt have possible known I wouldnt like it. Its not his fault, He has went out of his way to please me. Besides like I stated this Morri is differnt that the other soft Morri tips, I suspect its a bad tip. The reason Im thinking this is because the middle layer looks like its mushrooming but the rest of the tip is fine. Its not the cue. I tried another Joss shaft and run a rack, I believe it was just a bad tip.
