Just delivered the other day. I've had the project under wraps for a while. It was like switching from a 30-06 to a 50 caliber. OMG! I liked the feel so much, I gave the new Gulyassy away:eek:

Anyone wanna take guesses as to who made it?

Hits like a telephone pole. Solid wood, end to end. 19.9 oz. No coring! 4 double brass ring packs. Flame stained maple and cocobolo. Flat faced 3/8 pins.

hmmmmmmmm...cochran or scrugg?

Tascarella conversion

It's a Tascarella conversion. I asked Pete if he could make a full size cue out of a real nice piece of cocobolo that was a jump. The jump handle was about 13 inches long and was the right diameter for making the forearm. He followed the taper and created the rest of the cue. Most impressive is the flame stain in the maple handle and the double brass ring packs- Pete JR's idea! It doubles as a full size playing cue, and plays just like a Taska should!

Pete very rarely ever does work like this for anybody, keeping mostly to making customs from scratch, so I feel fortunate. He did not sign the cue, because the forearm was made by another cuemaker.

So there you have it! It's a hybrid, a bastard if you will! But it's rare for sure and truely unique and hits like telephone pole.

close jump

Nice.. Can it jump balls approx 2"-3" apart?

Yes. I have had some fairy close jumps that I was able to get over. I practice the standard (1 balls' width). anything closer, and I prefer to kick at the object ball. My skill level at jumping hasn't improved enough to make the famous "credit card" jump.

Before I had it converted, there was a guy down at the pool hall who asked me if he could try it. He used a suspended steady-rest type bridge with his left hand, and a dart stroke grip on the cue and nearly a 90 degree aproach on the cue ball. After 3 or 4 trys he was getting to cue ball to pop straight up and over balls less than 1 inch apart. I can't do that yet- but I know the cue is capable.
