New Orleans

Shorty, I know what it's like for you. My wife's and my family, friends, ties and roots are in New Orleans and I've been trying non-stop to reach people by phone, with no success. My grandchildren had to evacuate to a hotel in Pine Bluff,ARKANSAS,as that was the closest rooms available.I have relatives in Hattiesburburg,Laurel and Poplarville, also. I used to go to Columbia every Wednesday to eat at little boarding house that was owned by some little old country ladies, who who opened it to the public one day a week. You sat a huge round table with a huge lazy susan in the middle and ate fresh country vegatables, chicken, rolls, cornbread, pies, cakes, etc. I think that it was called "The Round Table." I've been getting most of my news from Fox News Network, but there's some really good information on New Orleans at www.wwltv.com ... They have a live feed and also an excellent chat room/forum with info that you can't get anywhere else. Good luck to you and your loved ones.My nieces and nephews stayed in New Orleans and I imagine that they're regretting that decision... Doug

Yeap...the Round Table is still there I do believe. I can't remember if it's shut down or not though, but I believe the building was still there behind Citizen's Bank.

No word yet...but I will keep trying as well. Thanks for a good memory there Doug.

Boy what a horror for all those folks.I am still getting my house fixed up from last years hurricane so I have some idea what these poor people are going through. The whole world is going to have to pitch in with this one.Its going to take at least a year to get back to only half of what has been lost. The amount of loss to human life and animals will probably add up into the hundreds. This is the worst thing I have ever seen, which spans over 50 years. Its hard for me to be here and watch the news without feeling helpless.I will send what I can afford and know its not gonna be nearly enough. My heart and wishes go out for all that were in its path. Now I hear Florida is watching a bunch of tropical disturbances and could witness this all over again.

I just watched the news. The levee gave out and water is just pouring into N.O. My heart and prayers go out to everyone affected by this storm! They're talking about N.O. not getting back on its feet for another month!

Here is some newspaper sites with some good information...

This one also has links to other newspapers on the left.

The one I am watching in particular is the Hattiesburg American. I can't find squat about Marion County. That concerns me. Also, I am worried about my grandparents who live in Lamar County...they don't have many big trees, but my grandpa just had his pacemaker redone and I know he don't need all this stress.

I finally got word that my mom and step-dad are safe. They did indeed lose about 20 or so big trees in the yard. They have no power, but running on two generators at this point. The good thing is, there is a gas station directly across the street from them. Not sure if it will work with no power though. They may not have power for a long time, and my mom sounded down in the dumps according to my aunt. She spoke with her late Monday night around 8 pm. Not sure about my grandparents or my dad. Still awaiting news there.

Watched the CBS Evening News last night, and could not believe what has happened. Hopefully Water, power, and Basic Services will be restored VERY SOON to the Effected Areas.

Maybe our Government in Washington D.C. need send a Few Less Munitions this month to the Middle East, and work on fixing some of the Storm Related Problems & Damages.

That's Good news buddy, Glad to hear it, Hope the others faired well also.

It still shell shocks you, even when your home is still there, and puts you in a daze, so not supprising she's in the dumps. I'm glad to hear they have generators atleast, We got caught without anything but one just big enough to run a light bulb. and got gouged on price for a large one the second time around (or was It the third), which we ended up not even needing that time. It's here now, in case we ever need it, not worth selling because we payed too much, and I'm not going to gouge anyone like that.

I heard that alot of gas stations were supposed to atleast power the pumps the pumps up, I'm guessing with either a generator or gas powered pump (not sure) but I heard this prior to the storm, so yet to be seen. If it's not under water then I would think that would be good news.

I'm sure they do, but Make sure they know not to run those generators in a closed space. Hopefully they will be able to get their power back as soon as possible.

Will still pray for the others.
I have some family in those parts of georgia that were affected by tornados, and some in tennesee also, I am going to see if My parents have talked to them, I'm hoping all is well with them since they were farther north, but saw some pictures in the area some live in of the tornados, and did not look much better then the harder hit areas to the south.
