Hello all. Here are some new pictures I took of my Amboyna burl Skip Weston. Any comments or advice on how to make the pictures better would be greatly appreciated. Here they are:

Thank you for looking.

That's a gorgeous cue! I chose Amboyna Burl for the points and but of my next cue, the main wood will be Lacey Sheoak instead of ebony.

Is that Lace Wood, also known as Australian Silky Oak ? If so, that is one gorgeous wood if you get a nice piece. It is almost holographic with a good finish, unbelieveable depth.

Thanks.

Thats one steller cue you have there Zack. I think the pictures turned out great. Is that the only Skip Weston you have?

No, I have another thread with my four point ebony with ivory inlays. It's a real looker as well!

RZ, not trying to hijack your thread sorry...

Dave,

I'm not sure what other names it's called by other than Lacey (or Lace) Sheoak, but you described it right. It's an a light brown wood with white "wavy" grain. I think it will look awesome.

Does Skip do only recut points? Looks AWEsome.

O and one more question, are Skip Weston and Perry Weston related? How come we don't see many Perry Weston cues on AzB? I love how Perry's cues look, I think he makes some of the nicest looking cues.

The points aren't recut, Skip has his own proprietory method of doing the hardwood "veneers" so there's no glue line. I agree that it makes the points look that much better! I don't know if Skip and Perry are related. I think that I heard somewhere that they weren't but don't hold me to that one. Perry does some nice work but that flared butt cap would take some getting used to. I'm 6'2" and that's where my hand is a lot of the time...lol. I hope this helps and thanks for the comments.

no relation tween Skip and Perry.
Gotcha.

Wow can you usually see the grain of the curly maple that well if they were made like oridnary veneers? I've always distinguished recuts and veneers by whether or not I can see the figure of the wood. Am I mistaken?

If anyone's got perry weston's cues, I'd love to see some pictures. I think I found just about every picture of perry weston's cues there is on the net, hehe. :)

I don't know about that one. I know that there aren't all that many cuemakers doing hardwood veneers and of the ones that are, that I've seen, I think Skips are the best!

Indeedy! Can't even see where the veneers join up at the tip of the point! Amazing stuff.

Tim.

I think that's because that's not where they line up...lol. I don't know how he does it, but as you said, "Amazing stuff."!

Hey timbo, what are you doing in southern Taiwan?

I might be going back to Taipei in a few months with my Skip (I used to play out of Tonlin); you can have a good look at it then if you decide to take the trip north.

Hey Roger, I'm actually from central Taiwan, Taichung. I go back to visit family almost every summer. I don't think I'll be going back during winter though, not enough time, but thanks for your offer! If ur back there during summer i'd definitely like to see that Skip!
