New Pin or Tap the Shaft?

Good evening all,

Just came into an old OB1 shaft that I have cleaned up and repaired (lots of abuse but pretty again.) Wow. Shoots great!

Anyway, planning on using it with an old sneaky I have but different pin (3/8x10 OB shaft vs 5/16x14 butt.) Would the better idea be to replace the butt pin to 3/8x10 or re-tap the shaft to make it 5/16x14 piloted?

Would the pricing be about the same either way? Could you give me an idea of a repair price to expect to pay? I appreciate your time.

The thing you want to look at is the difference in diameters.

Our stock original 3/8-10 cue shafts came with a diameter of .850", and the 5/16-14's came with a diameter of .840".

As long as the OB-1 shaft you have is the stock diameter, then I'd change it to the 5/16-14. That way you can just machine it to accept the insert, and also reduce the joint diameter to match the but. That is assuming your cue is the standard .840" in diameter.

Thank you Royce. I genuinely love the shaft and will have my mechanic tap it for me next week. :grin-square:
