I have been wondering when people spend big money on a pool cue do they really take it to the pool hall and risk getting it damaged.

If you are afraid to play with a cue, don't buy it. Cues are made to be played with, not hung on the wall and looked at.
Every high quality cue I own has spend numerous hours in pool rooms.

hey guys i understand taking care of your cue and I know that most of the damage would be done to the shaft...but still things can happen. And when you spend a couple of thousand dollars on a cue is it really worth the risk.

Your question about risk has to be answered by yourself. If it is not worth the risk to you, and you are going to constantly be worrying about your cue, don't buy it.

Why by any cue, whether $5000 or $50, if you are not going to play with it? They do have house cues.

If you had an expensive cue, what would you do with it, keep it in a closet all of the time? You pay more money for a car, but I'm sure you take it out of the garage once in a while. I think the risk is higher on the highway.

One of the reasons a cue can costs thousands of dollars is that the cuemaker's gained the reputation of making a good playing cue so it would be silly to pay that kind of money and not play with it.

You either buy a cue for playing or for collecting. Maybe a better question would be - how many high cost cues are left in a car trunk, as golf clubs are?

Thank you all

Well I guess that has answered my question...now let me piggy back on this and ask... are you able to buy and/or try some of the custom cues at shows to see if they have the you are looking for?

Most, but not all, of the cue makers at the Valley Forge Super Billiards Expo will let you hit a few balls with a cue. Some will ask that you not chalk the tip.

I have never bought or had a cue that I would be afraid to play with in a pool room or a bar league. I have spent more than I would like to mention but always buy with the intention of shooting with them.

To each his/her own!!

Only One

There is only one cue I did not shoot a ball with. That was a $18,000 Ivory cue with a white lizzard skin wrap. The owner would not let me pull the trigger on it. I play with all of mine!

Parrot Cue in Richmond,VA will. Go to Dieckman's shop in MI and he will. But you could ask Dave Bollman at Qmaster Billiard. The question is really what are you trying to find out???????? There are way enough high end cue players at Qmaster!!!
