I just finished reading it and enjoyed it very much.
It shows a broader portrait of Greenleaf than most know- true, he struggled with the bottle his whole life but he seemed like an upstanding guy overall who had enlightened views/behavior it terms of gender and race. I was also under the impression that his path went straight down- that he became an alcoholic mess and never recovered his form, but the book shows that he was able to recover much of his previous form before the bottle finally claimed him.
