Hi. I have been playing pool 25 years and I finally want try something new.

I got old Falcon and solid Bear black ring shaft on it. Now I want try shaft that would be about halfway deflection of solid maple and 314.
Btw I also have Z2 shaft and that too is not good for pool. It is great for snooker.

Cue have 5/16×14 metal screw.
I use Elk Master tips and don't like hit of predator 314 shaft.

Suggestions?

what kind of hit?

You want something that has half of the squirt of a 314?

What kind of hit do you like sharp or soft?

Sorry my English is not always too good..

I meant to say that I would like to have shaft that have just a tad more squirt that 314. OB1 is probably also too low deflection.
Dunno about hit.. not like Predator :D

Any solid maple shaft with a light ferule and 11.7mm tip diameter.

Solid shafts can be low deflection, but instead of taking the end-mass out by drilling a hole and leaving the tip large, you just taper them down and use a smaller tip.

I had couple months break from pool but I played some Finnish Kaisa and Snooker.
On those games one needs really accurate shotmaking and I played them with various equipment. I noticed optimal "deflection" or "squirt"(FOR ME) is more than 314 on Pool but less than factory solid maple shaft.

I also like elkmaster

I also like the Elkmaster. I play with a standard maple shaft 12.80 mm with a long pro taper, the pivot point is close to 12 inches from the tip. I am very happy with the amount of squirt of that shaft. It is more than the 314 but much less than the 13mm short taper shafts.

The Jacoby hybrid hits hard but with a Elkmaster tip it would be softer but it does not have more deflection that the 314 it may have less.

Depending on the hit you want I would think maybe one of the larger diameter OB shafts or properly set up regular maple like I play with.

Yes I know.. But I like to have at least 12.5mm diameter on pool. thx anyways.. :)

Anyone have tested these? I remember I tested some Mezz in the past and they had more squirt than Predators... I did not like some Mezz tapers though because they felt fat.
EDIT* Ps. nevermind I found picture and it is that fat taper type -.-

You may want to give the OB Classic Plus a look.

Play with one myself, and love the hit. The OB-1+ was my first shaft on the cue, and it hit too soft for my liking because of the laminated maple ferrule.

Thank you!
I made some research and found interesting stuff from here... from old thread.

OB Classic is DEFINITELY not soft hitting... - 10-31-2010, 08:32 PM

I don't post here often, but I lurk around here quite a bit. I've been playing pool for 25 years and have used a variety of cues, starting with production cues and then to full custom jobs: McDermott, Meucci, John Guffey, Schon, Coker, Chris Nitti, Skip Weston, and now use a 1st Edition Predator with the OB Classic shaft. The Classic is a VERY solid hitting shaft. Hit reminds me of the Schon's I had in the early 90's, but with less deflection. It comes with a Tiger Everest installed, which, IMO, plays outstanding and matches the shaft well.

I find the taper on mine to be a bit stiffer than the Predator 314, but it's still comfortable, although I slightly prefer the Predator's taper. The Classic seems to impart a hair more squirt on the cue ball vs. the 314, but the difference is negligible. Like the fact it's made in the USA. I can't say I prefer it much over the Predator, but it's a wonderful shaft by any standard.

That is pretty near what I described... :)

Keep them coming guys. Great help already.. (going sleep :boring2:) Gonna see this thread again tomorrow.

The OB Classic shaft is a very stiff hard hitting shaft. I have a OB Classic XL that I have sanded down to 12.6 MM. I use it on 8ft and 9ft tables. I have a Kamui Blk Soft on it.

I have the new OB Classic Plus shaft which is not nearly as stiff and hard hitting. I have taken it down to 12.5 MM and extended the taper. It plays a lot softer and has more deflection but less than a solid maple shaft. I use it on 7ft bar tables. I have a Kamikaze Blk Med on it

Hey you a fellow finn

I feel exactly the same about shafts. Predators are too LD and lack a bit in feel, solid 13mm has too much deflection.
I went through the following shafts to find out the one I like the most;
Mezz WX700
Mezz HP2
Tiger Ultra X LD
Tiger Pro X
Predator precat 314, cat 314, 314'2, 314'3
Gorba Customs Hollow Force
Schön
Barnhart solid maple 12.85mm
Jacoby edge hybrid 12.75mm
OB classic+ XL (still on its way)

I know that may sound like a lot but I'm really meticulous about my equipment. I play my best pool with the Jacoby shaft. It has a loooong taper, a very nice feel to it and it deflects just the right amount for me. The construction method is a bit weird but it works like a charm though.
You can try out mine if you like before buying one for yourself. Shoot me a text or call me 044 5544517 if you like. I live near Kajaani and travel to Oulu occasionally if that helps

You might like the Tiger or Mezz LD shafts.
They would fit this description.

I have a lot of friends with Mezz and while they feel great I don´t really like taper they have usually. My closed bridge is quite tight and if shaft start to get fatter too early it do affect my stroke negatively.
Not really tested properly Tiger yet.

I play with a Falcon cue with a Steve Klapp old growth shaft. The shaft is maple but seems denser than normal maple shaft. It does have deflection but not as much as other maple shafts i have played. I have played with a Predator shaft for years so I did have to adjust my shooting but it was for the better.

Thanks for offer but I gonna decide fast. I gonna have 40 year birthday this month 18th and my friends offered buy me shaft for gift. so I have to decide on next week so we can order it. That is why I made this thread because I gonna rely opinion of others for this one ;).

If we meet sometimes I could test your shafts anyways. Great collection.
I gonna be on Helsinki next weekend(8-9th) at 14.1 Finnish Champs. Then 21nd-23th Helsinki again with Kaisa Billiards World Championships(Won qualifying tournament:p)even I don´t really play that game serioysly:cool:.

314 with two fiber pads.

Freddie <~~~ you're welcome

McDermott G-Core .. You need to check out this shaft .. This is where Mezz got the idea for their Hybrid .. McDermott G-Core shaft is very affordable, has deflection somewhere between solid maple and a 314, has a great finish on the shaft - really feels great in your bridge hand, and perhaps most importantly this shaft has good proper weight at a little over 4.0 ounces.

If you like the hit and feel of this shaft, you will have found a very nice value.

Good rolls.
