Going to pick up my new Diamond Pro tomorrow morning. I need a little advice on covering the slate. I had the guys at Diamond cover the rails already but I plan on covering the slate myself. Just how much do you stretch the cloth before stapleing? I am getting Simonis 860.

I would have a mechanic cover your table. It is kind of like doing your own dental work in my opinon.

Come on Huck it can't be that bad. Maybe I will just ask direction from the guys at Diamond when I pick it up.

pull it tight with one hand, staple with the other.
get it as tight as you can with the one hand, i dont recommend using two hands and having someone else staple. the one hand stretching, one hand stapling technique seems best to me.

just my $.02

Thats what I would think too but I have heard the 860 is hard to do don't know why maybe someone else on here can enlighten me.

Call a mechanic.....

Get a mechanic to come over and level the slates and cover the bed for you. It will be worth it, there is a trick to stretchin Simonis. Just to come over and level the slates and stretch the bed cloth won't be that much of a charge............if you have the frame together and those heavy ass slates on there! Then you can put the top together.

You will be alot better off than trying to stretch it yourself if you never have!

HA HA If I could get someone around here for a decent price I would but they all want $300 to level and put on the cloth I think that is a bit much. So what is the "trick".

You need a machinist level.
A strong stapler.
And a ton of tricks. :D

Those i have so what are these tricks??? Come on guys there is only one pool table mech in the area and he is 40 miles away give uo the bag of tricks so I can do this myself when I get home tomorrow!!!

It's not a secret trick, it is just working with it before and knowing by doing. Getting staples close enough so not to have waves, stretching it consistantly so not to have waves. I have seen people that know how to recover tables and aren't familiar with Simons......and either don't get it tight enough, or stretch the hell out of it and have waves everywhere.

300!.......That's about what it cost to uncrate it and set it up for ya! lol

Thanks ptm I would think staples every half inch or so and pull it even all the way around would be the way to go does that sound right?

They wanted more like 500 for that. I think they were pissed because I didn't buy a Brunswick table.

Why would you dump 4g's into a table...then attempt to set it up when you have no experience at doing it (no offense). I just got a diamond about 5-6weeks ago and diamond did a great job of setting up the table. I just don't see why you would risk messing it up so you can save $300

Well if diamond were to come down and set it up I might pay them but they won't and there are no local table mech around that know anything about Diamond as far as I can tell. I will be picking it up from the factory myself so I can ask alot of questions about set up and If I see I can't handle it I will call someone in to do it for me. I enjoy things like this and looking at the instructions and after talking to the guys at Diamond I don't think it will be that hard. I may be wrong but we will see.

Go for it

Hey it might be fun. And you will sure as hell learn something. We learn by doing.

I hear and I forget
I read and I remember
I do and I understand

Well, I sold my 9 foot Ohlhausen to a friend, and I was going to save him money by moving it for him (the local dealer was providing someone to set it up and recover it). It seemed like such a simple thing to take it apart and carry it out of the basement, through the house, and out into the rented truck. Biggest mistake I ever made, it took us 4 hours, and darn near herniated every disk in our backs - all to save $150. We anxiously await hearing about the cloth installation adventure.
