New Taom Chalk review.

Recently Taom Tips made appearance at chalk market too. It came for public couple days ago.

I got early piece for testing it 2 weeks ago...
I gotta review here because it deserves it on so many ways.

First. I am Finnish guy and this chalk is made in Finland so that is thumbs up from me! :)

Colors seem to be green and light grey(almost white) so far.
Shape is round and that makes chalk worn out evenly. Great. :)

Totally removes "kicks" or "bad contacts" that creates friction what causes missing a ball or cueball speed kill.

I have used it now two weeks without bad contact..

It does not puff from tip and does not mark balls. Keeps balls and table cleaner. :):)
Although if you hit table with tip(i.e Masse) chalk mark mark table and it is harder to remove. :/

Seem to last long on tip.
First time one adds Taom chalk on tip should wipe other chalk first away.
Then chalk couple times to make sure you have it right.
Using chalk on phenolic tip seem to need a lot of pressure so chalk get onto tip. That seem to worn out chalk accelerated pace so that is kinda thumbs down...

Only thing what I really dislike that product is overpriced.
First price I got is 15€ per chalk.
I think this chalk is revolution of chalks but still 15€ is just too much IMHO.
Around ten bucks I could stand but this 15€ price make me feel like like i am robbed. :(

Overall ; Best chalk i ever used but way too expensive. Gotta use it anyways...

I add warning. Tables with ball collecting system eat Taom chalks. Round shape of chalk does that chalk get roll easily if you drop it or push it accidently.
Otherwise product is suberb. I put message for Taom that they should start making+selling chalk holder to prevent that chalk disappears..
Also pricing is little better. If one orders 9-pack of chalk. Chalk price is then about 12.50€ per piece. Taom have own webstore now where one can order single,double 6-pack or 9-pack.
Snooker pros are changing to Taom fast nowadays. Selby,Williams,Doherty and so on. I guessed it. Bad contacts are huge issue on Snooker. Cheers.

The chalk that I got directly from Taom for 15€ a piece is pretty much as useful as a piece of drywall. Goes on very poorly, difficult to chalk break tips (oh the irony :rolleyes:) and doesn't grip any better than the regular chalks. Maybe I got a bad piece or something but it is one of the worst chalks I have used so far. The texture is weird and it just doesn't feel like chalk at all :frown:

I also mentioned about how it is harder to apply chalk to Phenolic tip.
My opinion on review is not how much chalk "grips". I always preferred Master or Triangle and Taom have about same "grip".
Why I think Taom is superior is because it will keep balls and tables cleaner(longer lasting cloth). Also reducing/removing bad contacts is revolutionary IMHO. Texture seem rough first... but I like it after I got used to it.

I'm not going to tell you how good this chalk is, or compare it to other brands. But, I will tell you it will beat the living snot out of Taom chalk. You can take that to the bank :)

Hmm...I will reserve judgement on this particular brand until I get the chance to try it.

I don't like the price, and from the descriptions I probably won't like the qualities of it either, but I'll give it a chance. 15 Euros is a lot for chalk, but if it does reduce bad contacts, it COULD be worth it.

Other "premium" chalks like Kamui, was not only a blatant ripoff, pricewise, but also actually damaged equipment! It almost completely ruined the cloth in my club to the point where the manager was going to ban it. It was in the beginning when almost all the most enthusiastic players switched to that brand, before they realized the drawbacks of it. Fortunately it was discovered that it also increased the number of bad contacts and soiled the cue and ferrule and even the clothes, so most people quit using it. Some still use it, but their numbers are more limited, which tends to limit the damage caused. If you don't believe me, make a line on the cloth with Kaumui (on a cutoff piece of cloth) and try to remove it...It takes a lot of effort and is rarely completely successful. When lots of people break or do power shots, the stuff accumulates, but unlike regular chalk it tends to stick to balls passing over, not just the cueball... This stuff is bloody crap!

I won't bad mouth the competition, mainly because most all of them are good. But Kamui is the ONLY chalk that is not allowed on my personal table at home. All other chalks are welcome as long as they are blue or green in color.

I've been playing with the player Poolmanis for many years and I have to concur with his views on this new chalk. No bad contacts is especially important for players like myself because I like to roll the balls slowly and all the kicks bother me a lot. Two nights we played with the new stuff and I kept wiping the cueball in my dark shirt after each game and no marks there. KimmoH is right too when he stated the problem with phenolic tips and I have phenolic in my Fury BJ-cue but after a while it starts to work better at least on my playing cue with a laminated tip. I don't know how they could make chalk like this, suppose it's magic then and who cares if it works. I'm buying a cube or two myself when they reach the shops.
 
instead of buying a small box of that chalk why not just have your table recovered for the same price.

wait till the 100 dollar chalk comes out i bet that will be really good and make all the b players a solid a+ player.

This is no Kamui Nonsense, this is the only Chalk that I have really noticed a huge difference with. a light coating is all you need, and a good tip, I like Dennis Searing Precision tips Medium, better then old or new Moori, Tailsmen, any Zan or Kamui..........
I play with a Medium and it has just gotten better with age!
And using the new Taom Chalk, it is just amazing, better then Kamui .98, Magic Chalk, Navigator, Blue Diamond and Zero Mess on CB or Table!
 
For you Finnish guys i can see buying the homeboy-brand chalk but there's NO WAY its 3.5-times better than MagicChalk. I've NEVER had "bad contacts"(WTF those are) with Magic. To be honest i've never had problems with blue Master. My ONLY gripe with Master is after 10minutes of play your hands, cue, table are filthy.

the best player s in history used the plain old chalk. they ran hundreds of balls and still do with it. the bad players look for something to explain their misses. it isnt the chalk.

Ask SVB that question and let me know. Saw him chalk up and miscue that had him befuddled. Almost cost him the game and match. He just chalked up and I assure you, it was NOT his stroke ;)

But, of course, I'm sure you play with the same tips, cloth, cues, and wear a suit when you play too ;) Surely, you don't play with a tip that cost more than a dime, right ?

You were attacked in this thread? By whom? when? why? You should report whoever did such a thing.

But forget chalk, I was talking about tips. What type of tip do you use? Why don't pro's today use the same "cheaper" tip that Mosconi used 50 years ago ? Some folks don't buy chalk only for less misuces, some chalk is just less messy then other chalks and for a guy like me, that is what sold me. I like my equipment (cue and table) reasonably clean.

I would like to hear what you like about Taom Chalk after you try it. I believe at least Mika andJayson were selling it at U.S.
Jayson was also praising it on Facebook.
 
Now one can get Taom Chalk from their Webpage.

My piece was stolen and I ordered 9 pack more. Still too expensive kinda... I believe it was 12.50 per chalk on that box.

I noticed more and more Snooker pros are turning to Taom users. Because "kicks/bad contacts" are so huge on that game competitive level.
 
I picked one up from Jayson and can say it is the best I have used.

Done Kamui, Masters, Great White, Predator.. Absolute opposite of Kamui virtually no (none seen by eye) chalk dust left on hands or table. seem to be lasting a bit longer maybe this is because what you use stays on the tip. Not half on tip and half on your chalking hand. I chalk center outward and with other chalk my middle and ring finger catch all the falling chalk with other chalk.. Five hours of play hand is clean....Left hand dirty only from the table HAHAHA

New tip chalked once played 3 racks without rechalking...Pretty good as most know new tips require rechalking often at first.


A bit expensive yes
