i picked up a new player this weekend and she just blowed my mind tonight. i 1st met her fri night when she joined our opposing team. being a new player she is a 3 in 8 ball and a 2 in 9. i watched when she played and saw she is the typical low level player when it comes to cueball control but was impressed with her accuracy drilling balls in pockets at 90 mph.not talking about straight in shots either.

well i asked her to join my sunday night twam and she said ok. she shows up tonight and i have to explain the rules as we go along playing 9 ball. example ; she shot at the 4 ball makes contact with it but another ball falls in. she goes to sit down and i explain its still her shot. also explain to her about timeouts if she feels she needs one.

i have her playing a 5 and she was giving him fits. well he plays a safe on the 1 and she calls a time out. wish i knew how to set up a table and show you but will describe the situation as best as i can.

cue ball down by bottom right pocket, 1 ball by top right pocket. all kind of balls in the way. no way to kick across table and go up without scratching. so i tell her to hit the side rail that the cue ball was next to as hard as she can thinking the cueball would hop over the cluster and go up table making contact with the one.

i go sit back down by the lo whose team we were playing against. well you had to be there to believe it. she rears back and smacks the cue ball ... sure enough it clears the cluster and heads up table towards the 1 ball.

problem is the cue ball flies up higher than the table light and lands about 2 inches past the 1 ball. my lo looks over at me and says wtf was that ? i said what do you mean wtf was that, she darn near made a good hit.

he said yea that was an impossible hit. i said it was my fault she did not make it. he said hows that ? i said i did not take into account how tall she was and how strong she might be. i told him when i coached her to hit it as hard as she could not taking into account she aint a normal size woman. i thought he wa going to bust a gut laughing so hard.

she is in her early 20's, dont know shit about pool but can drill the balls in the pockets better than most 3's. i got a diamond in the rough here fellas if i can keep her a 2. ;)

Good stuff :p

Okay, maybe we do need a league forum. This is a pretty funny story that might be more entertaining among league players.

Or not.

When I was the coach on a couple APA team (as a high skill, I didn't get to play very much), I worked with low skill levels first on defensive thinking. Basically, if they didn't have a reasonable shot, they played a two-way or defensive shot. The only skill to be learned was some general speeds (a couple soft and medium speed controls).

A low-level player will naturally learn how to pocket balls and slowly pick up the idea position play. But most important is to educate him/her on when to play offense and defense. I've had many a new player go one to become very skills and tough competitors because they learned this one simple concept.

"... i got a diamond in the rough here fellas if i can keep her a 2. "

And that comment pretty much explains why so many of you guys have a problem with the APA. The players skill level is NOT a barrier to be overcome, so let's "keep her a 2". The skill level is a number that represents her pool playing ability in comparison to the rest of the players in that area.

If a few months from now her ability equates to level 3 or 4 - then she should be a 3 or 4. Not artifically kept down at level 2 - that's called sandbagging, which is cheating. I know about the convenience factor of the low SL, but that is not supposed to be the deciding factor.

If everyone would keep an honest score sheet the problem would be greatly lessened. The APA's new 3 point scoring system will help solve much of the problem. But we'll always having cheaters to deal with. Which is where the LOs judgement comes into the equation.

Hope all have a great holiday. It's cloudy and raining like crazy in Kansas City. Great picnic weather, LOL.

i have wondered about the league forum thing a time or 2 . i would love to hear about other peoples league experiences but i believe it would turn in to a league bashing forum quickly sad to say.

i am sad to see you took my comment made in jest the wrong way. if you look at my posting history you would find that i hate sandbagging.

i am very competitive and want my team to win every match possible. if i wanted her to stay a 2 i would not have coached her the shot she attempted, after her opponent played safe i did my darndest to prevent her from giving him ball in hand. she only lost by 2 points. if she had made a legal hit i doubt her opponent would have won.

if you are familier with the scoring system i am sure you know a new 2 beating a 5 would surely be raised the following week. i have seen it happen pretty often.

i also made a post earlier about the new scoring system could possibly be a good thing in cutting down sandbagging.

for the record we have been using the new system for 3 weeks now. we beat the lo's team 11-2 . that sound like anyone on my team was sandbagging ? we lost to them in 9 ball but it sure was not due to anyone sandbagging.

But is she hot ;)

lemme paint this picture for you.

a tall early 20's girl with low hip hugger jeans on bent over with half a thong showing, curves in all the right places, no jelly rolls anywhere, with a cig dangling from pouty lips who is a 2 mind you firing 4 or 5 balls in a row at 90 mph is pretty dang sexy to this old feller.

Good grief ! I am not going to check your posting history before responding to something. Who does that?

Sometimes scarcasm in print does not come across as scarsasm. It's hard to read "between the lines" of a stranger, etc.

If you're honest (it sounds like it) and she's honest (sounds like it) then no harm done and good luck with your APA play.
