New tip and ferrule job from OB cues ...

I've tried contacting OB three different times on three different contact methods about finding out what material they use, what's a good substitute or if I could buy ferrules from them with no replies. RIP Royce

Have you called them on the phone and talked to someone?
Dont understand why they would keep that info a big secret.

Knowing what I know now I would have replaced this ferrule with Ivorine 3.

However ... any material would be good if you liked the way it hit.
A custom cue should be just that ... set up for what you prefer regardless of what others try to tell you. Am I wrong here?

Wish the Porper $1 ferrules from Mullers were still available ... loved the way they machined and the way they played.

I just don't have enough experience with materials to know what would hold up good with those thin side walls of LD ferrules. There was a great thread and hear about the subject but there were so many different suggestions it was still confusing on what to use.

I have ordered original ferrules from OB for repair on OB shafts. They are available to OB certified repairmen and OB dealers. I did this through Royce a few years back, but have not dealt with them since his passing.

I've bought both the wooden and "other" ferrules from them as well as the pads. Calling gets things done ALOT faster.

"Whether it is the laminated maple ferrules on the OB-1 and OB-2 or the white thermoplastic ferrules used on the OB Classic and OB Pro, ferrule replacement is very much like that of most conventional shafts. Please note that we do not sell our ferrules to the general public so if you need to have a ferrule replaced you can either contact us to arrange for us to do it or you can contact one of the cuemakers or cue repair pros listed on our website."

I will also say, LIGHTER and STRONGER material is the only type to use on a LD shaft. These shafts have been designed to produce LD qualities, and using the wrong ferrule material can and will change the hit from which it was designed to have. There are very few ferrule materials that measure up to all that is required for a LD shaft.
