It's adjustable to prevent that....however it's only good in the right hands. The person that asked me about it was thinking of getting one for his clubhouse. Those devices can/will take the tip off the shaft if not careful. Aside from my repair lathe I get very good results using this combo. The Porper mushroom trimmer will cut into the ferrule if not adjusted properly. If you look closely at the tip trimmer the blade is below the Tip base and will cut the ferrule... I used the picture just for illustration.

Regarding Gold Crown's black-plastic rubber-band tip holder, McDermott uses a rubber band without the holder to glue its tips on. See video.
