New tip

Where can I buy one of these? I am interested in the Kamui Black Soft Clear if at all possible.
 
All of this is speculation of course, and who knows what their rationale is, but I'll throw another 'rumor' into the mill.

I've heard that Kamui is trying to make the installation process as uniform as possible to make their tips play as consistent as possible not just tip-to-tip, but also from installer to installer.

Some installers score the glue side with a razor, some do not. Some 'prime' the glue side with thin CA, some do not. I've seen one installer glue the tip to a piece of delrin with gel CA, then break it off before installing as a way of 'priming' (Part 1 HERE)

Kamui seems to be trying to eliminate as many of the 'installer's preference' to generate consistency. These pads seem to require no scuffing (and hence, no scoring), only a wipe with some tissue to remove any oils on the pad.

While there are still idiosynchrocies remaining, every time one is removed, they move to a more consistent product.



...the fact that it is clear, though...well that seems to be clever marketing, even though I'm sure they'll claim that it has something to do with eliminating counterfeiting.

though that might be true I have always scuffed the acrylic pad (like I mentioned before these tips are at the local market for almost a year) because glue sticks better to a rough surface rather than smooth.

Thanks for the pic. Does look pretty different from original tip version. The clear pad is separated from the tip by another pad which is black, and that is not the case with original tips. Looks like it was installed like that: black pad->acrylic pad->black pad->leather tip.

My take on the new tips so far, I agree totally the clear backing will alter the hit on softer ferrules. (this would be great for ferrules shafts). I also agree that the glue doesn't affect the side of the tip when installing. With the tips being 14mm and average finished diameter is around 12.8 unless your installer baths your tip in glue lol. Now Kamui told me those clear pads are there too stop the wicking of the glue when installing. So i'm thinking what kinda process did Kamui use too glue those Fancy clear pads on with. Why not just sell that miracle glue or procedure of installment........ Now I hope this YouTube video isn't from Kamui. 1st rule and golden rule is to keep the gluing surface 110% clean. never never have any foreign substance on the tip or the ferrule face ever. After he scuffs his new Kamui tip then cleans with new clean white pad. He puts it glue side down on dirty table surface. Then after he faces off his ferrule he decides to then clean his ferrule whitch should have been done before facing off. By cleaning the ferrule after face off. That ferrule is contaminated with all the dirt and cleaner. Also when he places his so call virgin tip in his centering tool. He packs it in with his fingers (more foreign substance). ...........Hey what do I know Thanks Frank.
 
i like their chalk, however i think this is marketing as well. wish them luck
 
Kamui Clear Tips

I have hit with 5 different cues with the Kamui clear tips and everyone seemed to "click" when I hit a ball. They were medium tips as I recall. Anybody else notice this with Kamui clear tips?

I am currently using Kamui black soft tips and just love them.

I haven't noticed a click with the Kamui Clear Black M I'm using...
 
I've got a few months of life remaining on my sniper before I try a Kamui clear. I'm undecided on soft vs medium. Guess I'll flip for it. Thanks for the report Joey. :thumbup:
 
I ordered a new Jacoby Edge Hybrid shaft with a Kamui black clear soft and its ok. I am playing with a Bluegrass with a micarta ferule and a medium brown kamui most of the time and like it better. Richard's cues hit a ton and play good too.

If you like the feel of a hard tip, get the kamui medium, if you like a medium hit get the soft. I found the super soft to be just right for me and about like a medium lepro, and not as soft as a elkmaster, but much better.
