New to cue making

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and new to pool cue making, I have made a few snooker cues but now want to try making a pool cue.

My plan is to make a butt from maple, I was thinking about glueing 4 square lengths together to make a blank, then turning down(almost a very simplified predator style, except on the butt). Theres no particular reason for this except I have an 1" board that wouldn't be thick enough on it's own. Has anyone any experience of how a cue made this way would play? Also, what is the glue of chioce? I have always used 2 part epoxy in the past but is regular PVA based wood glue or a Polyurethane based glue any good?

Sure that can be done. I believe I would use just 2 1.5X.750 or 1" pieces instead of four 4x4 however. Bill Hagan was known for this technique. This type of joinery is common in woodworking and by reversing the direction of the grain makes the finished composition more stable against warping and twisting. It's also much easier finding drier and better figured wood in 4/4
