New to me, maybe make jump butts ?

I've posted pictures of my home-built lathe here, and now want to show off my new-to-me built-in-the-70s lathe. At 10 x 24 I could build a butt for a jump cue ... but this little Taiwanese beauty will likely be limited to turning aluminum, brass, and leaded-steel, some of my favorite metals.

Sorry if this if a bit OT, but I had to show someone :D

how big is the hole through the headstock ? you can do ferrule and tip work even if the hole is only 0.750".

just a thought. d_

1" ... and what a great idea d , I hadn't thought of shaft work :) It's always the butts that get the attention.

you can do shafts and jump butts

And even jump breaks in two pc butts, if you work outside the chuck with a steady rest and a bearing with collets. I do all my accurate work that way anyways, the dual chucks I prefer for fast work where i do not need less than a thou accuracey. Though I know some have their dual chucks dialed in nicely, I still prefer working with center rests. You can even do a slim jump butt through the headstock with your new lathe as many are just under one inch diameter.
I am sure you will enjoy working with that fine old machine.

I have a 1940s Atlas with 36" between centers, but the spindle bore is only 7/8". At least you have quick change gears, I have to manuallly remove and add the gears, a real B*&%$. Yours looks nice and solid, and you can make all kinds of cue parts on it, like trim ring billets, collars, etc.
Good luck with it.
