New to pool, need some tip advice

I am fairly new to pool and I am having some trouble in picking a tip. I have a basic McDermott cue that I bought a few years ago and the tip is getting pretty thin.

Need a new tip for the break cue as well.

I have a seperate breaking cue, and I shoot pretty soft under normal circumstances. I would like a tip that grabs the cue ball pretty well for english (just starting to try it). Any ideas would be helpful.

Tips are largely personal preference. It's tough to say one is neccessarily better than another, it's really a trial and error thing much like strings on a guitar.

I'm currently using Triangle, they're not bad and are pretty consistent from tip to tip. I'm thinking of trying sniper as I've heard lots of good things about them. Moori give you a good feel, but you need to be diligent about your chalking. If your a lazy chalker then you will likely get some miscues.

As for a break tip, I just use a hard lepro.

I have used Tiger Everest Medium and didn't like it. The tip ended up peeling right of the ferrule, and the same thing happened to my friend's Everest tip. For about $1.50 you can buy a Triangle and LePro. Both require very little shaping and hold chalk very well. I have paid over $15 for layered tips and have not had success, and I am not going to spend $20-30 or more for a Moori. Triangle tips are my favorite.
