Hey all! I just moved to Nyc and looking for a good league to play in. I'll be working soon so can't be in a league that takes too much of my time, but id love some good competition as well. I played Apa in DC and was a 7. I live in Long Island city so I can do a league in queens and Manhattan. The problem is there are too many choices haha. I guess that's a good thing. But can you guys tell me your opinion on the different leagues? There's the predator pro am, Apa at a few pool halls, leagues at society billiards and Amsterdam, and I think a league at Steinway as well. There's also something called megabucks which I'm not familiar with. Thanks!

I play in the MegaBucks league and it's ran very well. BCA rules.

I can't say much for the NAPL and the APA as I've never played in them. Can't say I know of any other to be honest.

The Predators, Joss Northeast and Mezz are pretty much the big ones in the area although I have not played in non of them.

Where is the megabucks league based? Is it 9 ball? Individual or team?

Go to goplaymega.com to find out more about megabucks. It's played at society as well.

the league is played out of the major pool rooms in the city and some in long island aswell as a spot in lower westchester county.

Right now we are playing singles as it is the summer session which is only 12 weeks. Each week is a different game. 8-ball, 9ball, 10 ball. during other sessions when it's team based, the game played is decided on what the winner of the lag/coin toss chooses.

Thanks! Last question: what's the cash prize structure?

I'm assuming you mean the league championship. In the final tournament IIRC there is a $5000 prize pot. For teams is basically you pick from the $5k or all expenses paid trip to Vegas for the BCA championship.

in the division tourneys(mens, women and seniors) they give away iPads and other electronics as prizes.

Just in time for the World 14.1 Championship at Steinway Sept 5-11!

Hey it's Charlie right? I wish I can play straight pool on that level haha, I'm practicing a lot. But I'll definitely come watch and support the event! Was there last year and enjoyed it.

An APA 7 in DC? Did you actually play in DC or VA?

I play in DC too,,, but honestly I thought I knew all the APA 7s.

I thought there is only one place that has APA in DC,,, so you played at Bedrock?

What days were you looking at playing? Also, what format? Teams and singles each have their advantages and disadvantages.

I know NAPL singles 9 Ball on Tues. nights and NAPL Team 8 Ball on Wed. nights. Both out of Steinway, and can say both are good. Relaxed people, minimal cost, good equipment. Also nice is a practice table is available on league night.

Best of luck

Is NAPL still running a league on Friday night out of Steinway?

Amsterdam Billiards,
Tuesday, Team 8-ball
Wednesday, Team 8-ball
Thursday, Team 9-ball
Saturday, 14.1
Sunday, Team 9-ball,
Monday, 14.1
On the two small tables (8 footers), APA and NAPL

Society,
Team 9-ball & 8-ball nights are opposite of Amsterdams. Meaning Tuesday is Team 9-ball, and Thursday is Team 8-ball.

Long Island,
RAXX in Hempstead.
Bayshore Billiards, our own Steve Kurz runs the 14.1 league there.

New season start next month & October for most leagues in NYC.
