newbie question on joint protectors

Hi, I just got a two-piece cue today via ebay. It's sold by "Doctor Cheng" (made by Taiba cues). I want to get joint protectors for it, and I'm trying to figure out what size to get. I'm new to pool cues, so all I can do is go by what I'm reading on the internet :)

I have to measure the diameter of the pin plus the number of threads per inch, right? If so...:

1. When we talk about the pin's diameter, are we talking about the diameter if the threading is included, or is that the diameter of the pin itself, as if the threading wasn't there? With the threading included, the diameter appears to be 5/16".

2. It's tough to count the threads. If I look on one side of it, I see 8, and on the other side I see 9. Making things more complicated....the pin isn't an inch long, more like around 7/8" or so. So I just measured, and it appears that a half-inch contains about 6 and a half threads. That means I need...............?

3. Finally...the stupidest question yet. The cue came with a basic 1x1 cue case, divided inside into two halves. Which way do I insert the two pieces of the stick? Am I right in thinking the "tip" piece goes in so that the tip part is "up", by the zipper, and the "butt" piece goes in so that the threaded pin is "up" (next to the tip)? That way, the "thicker" parts of each piece are both "on the ground" if I stand the case upright. Is that correct?

Can you take a picture of the joint of the cue and post on the site since the cues on the site have different joint types.

sure, will do. Give me a couple of minutes, doing it right now.

OK, here it is:

based on the store website it looks to be a 5/16x14 joint. Therefore a 5/16X14 joint protector should work. Based on the ebay store the most of the delta line cues are 5/16x14 do some are different.

I hold my cues in the case in that order - butt is with buttcap down, the pin up, and the shaft is tip down and joint up.
The reason for that is in case of shocks, the rubber bumper, and the leather tip should amortize the vibrations.
