Hi guys, I am just starting to learn 3c and I am looking for some solid learning info. As far as pool goes, I have run a few 100's and 40/50 daily, I can beat the 10ball ghost, so I am somewhat accomplished there to give you all an idea of my level.

So far, 5 is my high run at 3C.....I had back to back 3's last week :) I was psyched. Over the years I have learned pieces of systems for pool, but then I heard some players use no systems? I learned a little about the +2 last week, but for the most part I just envision the ball track and let it fly which is ok for getting back to the corners, but when the shot is not obvious....I need help!

Anyway, I am working on getting a 10' 3C table here at home, so I am looking forward to learning this great game. What would you guys suggest to learn the game correctly? I do have Eddie Robbins book here on 3C, but it is over my head at this point in my curve :) I watch youtube videos all the time...Sang Lee, Jaspers, and a guy named Gallo? or Galla? big guy that looks like John Candy......such an awsome player!

thanx, G.

Welcome to the best game with billiards in the name!

It is a real treat to pick it up after you are proficient in pool.

I know your next question is gonna be, 'why did they make this game so hard?'. I have no answer to that!

In my humble opinion the best advice is to quit now while you're ahead. The game is like a virus with no known cure. For your own health run away.

If its too late and it does sound like you're infected here's what I suggest to minimize the agony.

Play a little Straight Rail with a goal to average 5 with the balls perfect on the rail. This will teach you some of the tiny nuances of hit and English.

Play some 1 Rail with the caveat of ALL shots must hit only 1 rail. NO MORE. This will help learn to hit longer distance caroms/rails.

At least have the knowledge of the basic systems for reference if nothing else.
Corner 5, Plus 2, Short Angle, Half Ball Clock, ..... Learn the returns and the adjustments to these.

Set up basic shots with your table marked (little stickies) and shoot them over and over from the exact same spot. then change the approach angle to these to learn the cousins.

When watching the videos try to guess what shot they will make. There's always a choice and there only a couple that are the correct choices sometimes only one. Good shot selection along with speed control will help in and of itself with position.

Robbins book is great but he advises not to study it till you're a .750 player.

That ought to keep you busy for a while.

That too.

Watch- as a pool player, you will have a helluva time avoiding sending your CB to the pocket...every time.

Add the following 2 phrases to your vocabulary:
Dammit! Is that long?
Dammit! Is that short?
:angry::o:angry::grin:

I hear you!....I have been getting a vocabulary lesson...I was informed a shot I made was a "box" shot, oh really? thats nice....I just called it 2 rails first :) ticky's, backup, umbrella, ladder, ....it's a learning deal!

yea...I learned real quick about telling the cueball to "go long!" or backup!!, but for me, nothing steams me more then a kiss after a few rails...uggg!
