The event started with the annual awards ceremony. Awards were given for Most Improved Male and Female, Sportsperson of the Year, and Tour Champion. Additionally 4 players were inducted into the Hall of Fame. The awards are as follows:

Individual Awards-

Most Improved Male: Steve ‘Sutton Death’ Sutton

Steve has come a long way and has matured in this past year. His love of the game is evident in the way he dedicates himself to playing in as many tournament as he can, including the Amateur Open 9 Ball Tournament at the Super Billiards Expo and the Predator Tour amateur and pro events. Steve also won the July 17, 2016 New England 9 Ball Series event at Crow’s Nest.

Most Improved Female: Lida Mullendore

Lida has put a lot of time into her game which has resulted in a noticeable improvement in her performance in this and other tours and has cashed in several New England 9 Ball Series events this season. Lida also runs weekly tournaments at Flat Top Johnny’s in Cambridge, MA.

Sportsperson of the Year: TJ Marshall

TJ always behaves graciously regardless of if he wins or loses. He never gets upset if he misses a shot and always stays composed. The New England 9 Ball Series was proud to support TJ’s fundraising team Marshall’s Marching Angels in the March of Dimes March for Babies fundraiser. TJ and his wife Nicole marched in memory of their three children Olivia, Thomas, and Faith.

Tour Champion: Cody Porter

Cody has everything all the award winners have in one package: sportsmanship, drive, determination, and a great attitude. He has won the most New England 9 Ball Series events of any player this season. Cody has also offered valuable input to help the tour improve.

Hall of Fame Inductees-

Joe Brown: Joe was a long-time tour member who passed away unexpectedly this year. Joe was loved and respected by many of the players. His daughter Jen accepted his Hall of Fame induction plague on his behalf.

Jake Harrison: Jake has been competing in pool for over 30 years and has personally known Marc Dionne for 15 years. Jake is a great competitor and a true sportsperson.

Dharma Lim: Very few people in the area have done more to promote the game of pool and have encouraged more local players to compete on the tour than Dharma. Dharma also made his room Grand China Billiards available for the tour to hold events on short notice when other rooms cancelled. It is evident that Dharma’s true motivation is a love of pool and a genuine desire to help players improve their games.

Stanly Rupard: Stan has been competing in pool for over 30 years. Stan also helps promote the sport of pool and encourages players to compete on the tour.

Catherine ‘The Tiny Titan’ Fiorilla: The New England 9 Ball Series would not be as successful as it is today if it were not for Katie’s help maintaining the database, writing event summaries, and helping run events. Marc has known Katie for over 10 years and watched her go from an APA skill level 2 who could barely hit the cue ball to one of the few female skill level 7 players in the world. Katie was also the runner-up at the 2015 Women’s Amateur Open at the Super Billiard’s Expo.
