I recently took delivery of one of these. I also own a McD C-8 (early '80's) Joss 53-09, Schon STL-5, and an older 2 pt Meucci.
It is the prettiest cue I've ever owned, for starters, and apparently Bob makes these start-to-finish himself. It helped my confidence when I called the factory with questions about the cue to hear "oh, the Pro-Series cues? Those are Bob's deal...let me see if he's here..." As a business owner who makes custom products, this revealed it is clearly not a production item. My cue arrived exactly as I ordered it, and is signed.
So how does it play? I think what he means with that PRO PLAYER ONLY nonsense is that this cue is very responsive. Bob asked me lots of questions about my style of play, shot-making ability and goals before he suggested a cue weight and shaft size. I find I can draw the ball more effectively with this cue (I can't draw worth a dang with the Schon for some reason...) and find I can use inside english more confidently. However, it doesn't seem to tolerate me being sloppy with where I strike the cue ball. The McD seems most tolerant of that, but takes more effort to impart spin. I guess what I am trying to say is this cue makes it easy to spin the cue ball....whether or not you intended to. A sloppy or inconsistent stroke yields commensurate inaccuracy. But when your stroke is grooved, it's pretty amazing how easy it is to get around the table.
I am satisfied with my new Meucci and am enjoying spending time learning how it responds. I am also a freelance violinist with a classical background, and to me, a fine cue is like having the right instrument. None of them play themselves, but the trick is to find one that helps you accomplish what you want more easily. This cue is doing it for me....
