The Wedge

I try for the Varner wedge almost every game I play once it goes up table. But there are only a few old dogs I play and no one is watching

sigel, lassiter and rempe all of which were among the best ever, lacked a top one pocket speed which was played often in their time.
yet kelly which could beat them all at any time is rarely mentioned.
varner excelled at all the games. and especially at one pocket. yet he single handily ruined the viewing of it with his slow play.

Sigel won a couple of pro one-pocket tournaments when one pocket wasn’t much a tournament game. One pocket was not unknown to him, and had it been a primary pro tournament discipline, there is no doubt he would have been one of the top players considering:

- One of the greatest 14.1 players in history
- Gambled more in one pocket than any other game
- won at least two professional one pocket tournaments

yes and he would be my pick for best all around during that period in time. but many great players were close. but not at his level.
