Was doing nothing last night so I decided to drive over to where Nick Varner was doing a demonstration last night. ;)

Awesome was all I can say about having the opportunity to watch this legend of the game from 10 feet away. Nick put on a GREAT FREE Show.

So if you live in Tucson AZ, or near by try and make tonights exhibition, @1930 HRS. (7:30 pm) in Tucson AZ @ Main Street Billiard :D

No I did not play Nick in the challange games, but all who did lost when I left for home early. ;)

Nick used to do a great exhibition, kind of a throw back to the old days. He would do not only trick shots but run balls in straight pool and a little instruction play challenge matches, for real by the way, not just some dopey one game things with some kids, he would play a match with a local champ, answer questions and so on.. He did a lot at colleges, I caught his show a number of times and it was always great, something for everybody.

I leave that job up to the folks who were at Tucson AZ last night @ Main Street Billiards. :p

If you get a chance to talk to him, can you ask him why he is always crossing the cueball to the left or to the right? Is it an aiming system? I've always wondered why he does this.

Nick does seem to have an unusual break stroke. almost like he takes it from the outside to the inside. cant argue with his success though. certainly one of the all-time greats.

i am still hoping to get a chance to play against him once he gets his room finished down there in Owensboro.

Well as I got shaft by both the Brown Truck, and the U.S. Post Office today I am staying home so here is what I can remember from the Varner Demo.

He was introduced and the talk went to a Q & A (question & answers) about the IPT.

Apparently Nick is in love with the IPT, as he said it is a chance to make big money, and mention the $30,000.00 he got at The King of the Hill in Orlando for his 7th place finish.

Than he did some demos of both his 8 & 9 Ball Strategies & Position Play for running the Table.

Said something about this IPT 8 Ball is a Tough Game where you can run 5, or 6 balls and still loose a game. Again more Q & A’s during this part of the demo.

Than he did a series of Trick Shots, talked about his line of Cues and Cases.

Than there was about 8-10 who had sign up to play Nick a single game of 8, or 9 Ball. When I left no one had beat Nick.

I personally drove 100 miles to see the Demo, and it was well worth the trip to see one of the best ever in the game play from a very close up seat.

Varner put on a good show, gave freely of his expertise, and answer all question that were shot his way with what I would call honest answers.

Think the reason Nick Varner is so go is he has played the game of Pool many years, and practiced many more hours at perfecting his game than most of us care to invest in our game.
