Nickel vs dime

what shape tip do most of you use on your cues???
what if any are the pros/con of each???

is one shape more appropiate to a 13mm tip versus 12.75 ot smaller??

13mm and down to 12.5 a dime would be better.
for 13.25 to 14mm a nickle would be better.

I put a dime radius on almost all tips that I install irregardless of what the customer asks for unless he is standing over my shoulder telling me what to do. The reason for this is that a tip will shape itself to the players style. If a player utilizes a lot of juice the tip will become rounder, if he is more of a center ball shooter it will flatten out. By starting the tip out rounder it becomes much easier to get more of an arc and it is still easy for the tip to flatten out some for the nickle lovers where as a nickle shape will take some time to wear into a dime shape.

If the customer doesn't know what they want, I will put a penny (.75" dia) curvature on it - a penny is in between a nickel and a dime. It is easily reshaped to a dime or nickel from there - similare to Dick's approach.

Hi,

Not too much difference between a nickle and a dime when to compare them to each other. When you figure a round ball to a rounded tip, the surface area of contact footprint is a mute point.

I pretty much agree with Chris and let the dia. dictate the radius.

I had the chance to do about ten shafts for Tom Rossman when he was at my pool hall. I asked him if he wanted a nickel or a dime and he reached into his pocket and pulled out both and showed me that they are pretty darn close. He said just give him an even radius and he will be happy.
