Night at the poker room

This post doesn't really have a purpose. I just decided to share a story about part of my night, last night.

I was playing the first day of a multi-day holdem tourney when I ended up getting knocked out 12 people from making it to day two. I haven't played poker for over a year so I actually made it a bit further than I had expected. Getting rid of 190 entrants took a bit too long for me.
Since i didn't have very high expectations I was only slightly irritated as I took the walk of shame through the hallways moving towards my car when I looked up and saw a familiar face. Efren Reyes was standing in the hallway talking to a couple other gentleman. It stopped me in my tracks for a moment. I had stepped away from playing poker over a year ago, but sadly it's been even longer for pool. I've really only picked up a cue for 3 months in the course of about the last 4 years, and those 3 months were about 2 years ago.

Efrens conversation with the men stopped moments after I saw him, and he was headed towards the cash tables. I soon found myself following him at a distance in the same manner I had years ago when I went to see him at the local pool room. I find it a bit interesting that I've seen him in person on numerous occasions, and even played a short set against him in the past however I was instantly excited to see him. Maybe even more so than when I had gone to see him play. I think there maybe something different when you run into someone at a place you wouldn't except.
I'm not really the type to get "star struck," but it was a neat moment. I felt like I should be telling everyone in the room "do you know who that is? Still seems crazy that he could be in a room with a few hundred people and almost no one knows who's among them. Seeing him also made me want to head straight to a pool table.
I think every pool player that gets knocked out of a poker tourney should be able to run into efren. It takes a bit of the sting off.
