Night before Skins

On the way into Atlantic City, we were within 20 miles of the Resorts Casino, and we were greeted with a huge billboard advertising the 130,000-added event. The excitement began to build.

When we walked into the lobby, front and center was an Olhausen table which, by the way, is the designated PRACTICE table for all 16 players.

The players meeting occurred at 8:00 p.m. Thought I didn't get the names of all four groups, I do know that the 8:00 p.m. round tomorrow night will be Keith McCready, Marlon Manalo, Jose Parica, and Danny Basavich.

We ran into Gabe Owen in the table game area tonight, and he said his group begins at 3:00 p.m., and he will be competing with Santos, Rodney Morris, and Luc Salvas. The first round begins at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow.

Charlie Williams was the only player not in attendance at the meeting, as his flight was delayed.

I keep getting cut off on the hookup at the hotel. So I will try to post more tomorrow. Just thought I'd check in and give a brief update.

Hi JAM, I'm sure you will keep us updated with your interesting reports, as always. Thanks a lot for that, also from overseas. I'm curious to know the names in the groups, and if Fabio is there. Good luck to "your horse", and have a good time!

Have fun. Wish I was there. ;)

May Keith bring home a big chunk of cash. :D

As usual when I'm on the road, I wake up at the crack of dawn like a rooster. My laptop hooking up in the room is just horrible, and I must have gotten knocked offline about 20 times trying to make one doggone post. However, I just discovered a HIGH-SPEED computer in the lobby of the Resorts Casino, FREE to all guests. So here I am!

In the lobby, there is a 9-foot Olhausen table set up. This is the ONLY practice table for the players. It is in full view of guests and casino patrons coming and going. I finally got sick of walking around this morning like a refugee and went back to my room to inform Keith that I saw the Aramith Super Pro balls in a box sitting underneath this one-and-only Olhausen. He said, "Really? I'm getting up and going to practice." Unbelievably, Keith is down there playing solo, trying to get in stroke. This is a FIRST to see my horse up so early, but it shows me that he's taking this event very seriously. As the day progresses, the players will most likely come to the lobby to practice, but right now, we've got the whole table to ourselves.

At the players meeting, Rodney Morris came with his baby girl. He was a proud dad, showing her off. She's a cutie pie, too.

Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich, being that he lives in New Jersey, didn't have to drive too far. He was with his lovely girlfriend Danielle. Danny looks so happy and content these days. Of course, I know that behind every good man, there's a good woman, and Danny's got himself a super lady.

Danny is in Keith's group of four, along with Jose and Marlon. Tough action for my camp, but in this format of Skins, you just never know who will come out on top. You must play well, but you also need a little Lady Luck on your side.

Last night, Jose Parica, Keith, and I were walking around, and a bunch of Filipinos were gambling at the Black Jack tables and recognized Jose. He was immediately swarmed with fans, asking for his autograph, getting their picture taken with Jose with their cell phone cameras. One fan wanted to play Jose one game for 500 bucks, and Jose's eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. I'm not sure if they ever played that game or not, but Jose has a strong fan club here at Resorts.

New York's sweetest player Tony Robles is here with his dad and a friend. He always has this gentle quality about him that I admire. He's a tough warrior on a field of green, but off the table he is as nice as can be. He always greets me with a hug and a kiss.

Well, that's about it. I'm going to head back on out to the lobby and watch my horse practice! First round is today at 1:00 p.m. I'll try to post some updates as the matches unfold!

Man, this high-speed computer is the NUTS!
