Nine Ball Ghost

After reading through these forums, I decided to try to play the ghost in 9-ball. Do 9 ball breaks or early combos of the 9 count against the ghost, if not I think the ghost shut me out...

Play it however you like.

I use is it as runout practice so thats how I play it....

No early 9's , spot the nine on the breaks , no ball in hand.

The ghost is a heartbreaker for alot of people. If it's too much right now , don't feel bad about starting with 7ball or less even.

I use the ghost as a stand-in for specific levels of opponents I expect to face; usually when I'm going to gamble.
If I'm playing somebody who shoots well enough, but can't jump at all and rarely makes contact on all but the easiest of kick shots, then I assume the ghost will make any shot that isn't obstructed. Of course I want to play lock up safeties, but practicing adequate safeties for the level of opponent coming up is still of value.
When preparing for playing a great player giving me weight, I take that weight from the ghost. I'll judge my safety play and determine if I sold out to the ghost based on the upcoming player's ability... I assume they can make anything they can kick at or jump, otherwise I take BIH and continue.

Thanks for the info, enjoy the ghost challenge. im not big on running the same shooting drills over and over, but this was enjoyable, came close to running out a few times.

Changing your 9-ball ghost strategy can also make the game much easier or harder. For example:

1) Soft break, pattern racking, magic rack = easy Ghost.

2) Power break, no pattern racking, wooden triangle rack = hard Ghost.

I find it useful to practice both ways. The second method is more similar to a real game.

Baby Ghost:

You simply randomly place the one through nine ball anywhere on the table but with no balls tied up or
in a tough spot on a rail. All balls should be “makeable”. You start with "ball in hand". Then you simply
have to run out the rack.

A combination on the nine ball requires it to be spotted and play continues. Miss or foul and you lose.

Try this ten times and see how many racks you run. One out of ten makes you a 10% player.
Ten out of ten makes you a 100% player.

Mama Ghost:

This version requires you to break the balls. Rack the balls in any order you choose. (1 on foot spot and 9 in the middle)
Placing the balls in whatever order you choose should give you a slight advantage after the break in the way
the balls lay after the break.

After the break you have “ball in hand” anywhere on the table. A legal combination on the nine ball
wins the game. Nine ball on the break wins. Miss or foul and you lose.

Try this ten times and see how many racks you run.

Papa Ghost:

This version requires you to break the balls. Rack the balls in a random order. (1 on foot spot and 9 in the middle)

After the break you have to play the cue ball wherever it lands on the table. A legal combination on the
nine ball wins the game. Nine ball on the break wins. Miss or foul and you lose.

Try this ten times. Ten out of ten makes you a monster.
