Ooooohh, oooohh, me, me!!!!!
I just started a BCA 9-ball league 9-ball (I played last year in a 14.1 BCA league, too). Here are the contrasts between it and the APA I've been playing the last three-four years.
BCA: little to no scorekeeping. APA: innings, ball counts, defensive shots.
Players in BCA, at least in my area, are nearly all very serious about their pool game. APA, um, not so much. (This is expected, though, based on the intended audiences of each.) As a result: BCA: fun to watch, better be on your best game. APA: how many innings so far? 31?!?
BCA: In at 7:30 (7:00 to warm up), out at 9:30. APA: In at 7:00, last match done around 12:30am, if we're lucky (6:30 warm up)
BCA: no drama (at least so far). APA: lots of drama (I have to play first; I can't play first; I will pay you next week; I'm a 2, I can't beat a 6; what do you mean, that's a push shot?; 8-ball gotta go in clean, right? (No.); whaddayamean I lost because I didn't mark my pocket - it was BIH and the 8-ball was in the jaws of the pocket!)
BCA: I can jump, right? APA: no jumping.
BCA: I can push out in 9-ball, right? APA: What's a push out? Is that the same as a push shot?
BCA: I'm here to play pool. APA: It's my turn already? Hang on a minute, I'm at the bar ordering shots.
In my limited BCA experience, it's all about the pool. In APA, it's less pool, more drinking and socialization. Neither is right or wrong. Depends on your goals and perspective.
