Do temperature extremes need to be avoided mostly because of the slate? I would not think the rubber on the rails or the rails themselves would be affected very much by short term storage (30 days or less) in areas of 40 or 50 degree temp swings. I can see temp changes affecting the play of assembled tables but how about broken down tables?

40-50 degree storage temps swings will not harm most tables. Any commercial tables such as Gold Crowns will be fine. I have many stored in unheated storage for months and even years without problems. The most important thing in storage of tables is to make sure they stay DRY. Standing water and very high humidity can damage glued joinery over time.
