No Heart?

So you should have stayed there and drilled him 17 sets in a row, if you want to get the message across that he can't win. NEVER quit winners. Before you play anyone, let them know how many sets you plan to play, or how long you can play for. TO win one set and quit is no good. I'm not saying you don't have heart, but the other guy has a right to be upset. You seem to care alot about what other people think, about you being a better player than Jody. I'll bet you anything almost all of them are talking crap about you "getting lucky and quitting ahead" or something like that. Never quit winners.
I totally agree. You would get a lot more satisfaction beating this guy all night long and hearing him say with his own mouth that he can't win than if you beat him 7-1 and jam out. The way I learned to play, is the loser decides when the game is over. If you start running out of time you let the opponent know and he decides to raise the bet or not.
It sounds like you should still have action with these guys, don't mess that up!

I think if it was me i would have pounded on the guy as long as i could with the 7, then adjust to the 8 and continue pounding on this guy ,then adjust to the last 2 and beat the guy till he couldnt stand it , then finally adjust to even, but thats me and i got alot of play in me

Lets play

I would really love to play you sometime. If you really believe that, I can't lose. You will just keep playing until I win, right.

I have most likely been gambling longer than a lot of you have been alive. Let me tell y'all one thing, you gamble to win. Anybody that is intent on losing, give me a PM and I will tell you where to bring all your money. When I win it all, I'm leaving winner. I have never seen anyone sit down at a blackjack table in a casino, call the pitboss over and say - I'm going to play 50 hands at $200 a hand. Is it Ok with you that if I happen to be ahead then I can leave. A lot of people say, you've got to give me a chance to win my money back. No I don't, the reason is easy, when you lost it, it became my money, not yours. I learned this from a bookie many many years ago. Said his favorite gamblers was the ones that had the idea that when they won they were playing with his money. Said the dummies didn't realize once they won, it was theirs.

I no longer bet on my own play at pool. Getting too old. Prefer to stakehorse. Will flip you a coin for 1 large. But if I win don't expect me to flip again to give you a chance to win my newly acquired money. ;)

Very good points in many posts. I especially like Pin's "if you're gambling with someone, you have to expect that they might leave with some of your money". So if you gamble, you might win but you might lose as well. And if you have lost some money already, how on earth can you expect your opponent to give you a chance to get even ? Playing double or nothing ? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. If I'm winning after a marathon of sets, I might give my opponent a chance to win some of his money back by raising the bet, but definitely not all of it, because I've earned the money. And IMHO, both players can quit anytime, but it's polite to inform the opponent in the beginning of the last set, so the opponent will have a chance to arrange a special bet on the last set if that's the case.

The story about the pool god is quite familiar. But, is it because he has a strong personality or just because there aren't any really good players around ? Many loudmouths get more respect, because some (stupid) people think that the loudmouth must be a good player, because of the strong opinions and feedback "you suck, he sucks, they suck, everybody sucks, except me". And railbirds think that the average player is a god, because there just aren't very good players around. Why don't you play the pool god and demand some weight because he is sooooo good and know-it-all and you are sooooo much below him... and then just keep on beating him. Or if he refuses, ask if he is afraid of you and let everyone in the room hear the question.

When visiting small towns and after people hear that I play pool, I remember being asked many times if I know the local player who has said to be at least a Finnish champion and could whoop my a$$ anytime. When they say the name, it's always that I've never heard of it and tell that this so-called champion has been bs'ing them. They always have a puzzled look on their faces when they hear that their pool god isn't what he says he is. I assure them that I know almost all the licenced players in Finland for the last 10 years and definitely can remember all the good players and champions. Familiar scenario...

I have a question for you guys. First, let me tell you the story. Last night (Tuesday), I'm at a friend of mine's house practicing with him on his table. He has an extremely tight Olhausen, and I was hitting pretty damn good. My wife and I leave, and we start heading to Wal-Mart, on the north side of our town. As we're driving down the road, the house man from our local pool room calls my wife's cell phone and says Jody (a guy I know who's a pretty decent player) wants to play me a race to 7 for $100 and he'll spot me the 7. This is at about 1:00am in the morning. I tell the house man, and I quote, "I don't need no f%^*ing 7 to beat him. I'm on my way to the store and then I'm going home." Then we hang up. A few minutes later, I tell my wife, "call him back and tell him I'm I'll play Jody a race to 7 for $50 if he wants to play. They say okay. SO, I turn around, go all the way across town to my pool room and play Jody. I smoke his ass 7-1 in about 30 minutes, and quit, telling them I'm going to Wal-Mart and then home. Jody pitches a bitch, he's like, "where's your heart?" and crap like that. I say, "look, I was on my way to Wal-Mart, and ya'll called me to play a race to 7, and I said okay. Now, I'm going to Wal-Mart." It was late and I had gotten off work at 10PM after working 10 hours and then played at my friends house for about 2 and a half hours. I was ready to hit the store and go home. They called me out, so I played. It wasn't about the money, I just wanted to prove to Jody and his "fans" that I could beat him. I told him after the match that I didn't need the spot to beat him, and I don't. I just wanted toi show Jody and his "fans" that I wasn't a joke. Was I in the wrong for quitting after 1 set, or should I have been obligated to play as long as Jody wanted to, since he called me out? What's your honest opinion?

I agree- you should post a pic or a description of the guy as well as the room that he plays in, then we can send players over to spank him until he understands he's only a small fish in a small tank...

well, i must clarify my comment about this so-called Pool god around here not tipping my Cuetec cue.

i thought about it, and, yes, he did actually go ahead and tip the Cuetec this time, but said he wouldnt do it again. and when i had a Cuetec Jump/Break cue he did indeed refuse to put a hard tip on it, saying breaking with this shaft would be a waste of time.

this guy is one of those that thinks (erroneously i believe) custom cues have a magical, mystical, supernatural effect on players. he told me a buddy of his in florida got a custom cue and went from a 2 to a 6 in two weeks!

just thought i would clarify.

and it's named DJ's Billiards. No competition there, really, except about a half dozen players who are hardly ever there except me, who "lives" there (wife says it's my second home, better stay straight or it'll be my first :). I have to go to Carolina or somewhere else to get any real competition. But if you see somebody in the back practicing like his life depends on it and drinking bottle after bottle of water, then that's me.
