Non forfeit at White Diamonds - Whats up with that!!!

Joey,

Agree with your comments to a point. My problem is this. Why have rules at all if you are going to "twist" them to benefit a few players? It would be better if the TD just said upfront that special consideration will be given to the "professional" players in the field. Once said, no one should have a problem with it. I wouldn't be happy but at least I knew the score.

Incidentally, your comment about not getting any better brought a smile to my face. Too many posters on AZ have said you are too good already :p!

Going along with the horse racing analogies, if a horse scratches you get a refund. So, if you wanted to make it a rule in a calcutta, you could say if a player forfeits(no shows) his FIRST match, you just refund the money to the calcutta buyer. Yes, that could cause some complaints but is an option.

However, if the player forfeits a later match, no refund, it's just like a horse pulling up out of a race(for whatever reason).

You're forgetting one very important detail. Horses can only be scratched from a race BEFORE the race begins. Once the bell goes off and the gates open, the race is on and no horse can be scratched.

If a horse breaks his leg before the first turn, you can get a refund? But coming up lame going down the back stretch, no refunds? No way! Once the race starts, it's on.

You can't just dump the entire loss on the calcutta buyer of a top player or the entire calcutta will die in the future. It is not just about this one calcutta. You can afford to piss off one player, there is 50 more to replace him. There is not 50 more of juice or the guy from Ohio or anywhere else to juice up the calcutta that much.

You're definitely right, huge calcuttas make for great entertainment. If the calcutta dies off, the tournament will probably die off, too. And that would be a shame.

But I think a very important fact is getting forgotten here: this whole mess is due to one guy missing his match. Maybe it's just me, but isn't it 100% his fault?

Why is that fact getting skipped over? Why is the blame being shifted to anyone else? Why are we talking about special rules for special people? At what dollar amount should refunds be given? $500? $1,000? 2,000?

Why can't anyone be accountable for their own actions anymore?!?

Well, you should have seen me play Robb Saez and Ronnie Wiseman tonight on the livestream. That would have cleared things up real good about how well I play. :embarrassed2:
