Non-Gambling Pool Players

I had a friend that thought pretty far out of the box, sometimes. He discovered Hustlers Beats and Others and Ned Polski, He had already tried to get in touch with Tevis I believe and Thomas Fensch , the author of Lions and the lambs, Any way , he calls me one day and says I got in touch with Ned Polski! Like he had found Moses. I said ah thats cool , what did he have to say , and he said , not much, it was pretty weird though , I found his telephone number from 30 years ago and it was still valid. A woman answered. he asked if she knew Ned Polski and she said "thats my son
why do you want him , after explaining, she went and got him and he got on the phone and my buddy said , he and his mother acted like they were in some kind of witness protection plan , I wonder what was going on lol. I think he was just weird, most real writers are.
I'm surprised his # was still the same. Notoriety brings out the crazies. You need an alias or a nom de plume in order to have some privacy. I think you'll find many people of that ILk are reclusive in nature anyway. Shunning crowds and the masses.

"Quitting" presents a problem with gamblers. I would always make clear how long I expected to play. This was not always a perfect solution, so I would make it clear that, as a "winner", I would be available for a return engagement at a later date. Why wouldn't I want to?
You know a friend of mine who isn’t a huge gambler was doing it more over covid since the lack of tournaments would make the rule before they played. He would play 3 sets for no matter whether he won or lost. after that either person was free to walk. He wasn’t playing all night just so someone could break even.

one set and either side to continue or not. only a fool would play on if he won a set and it was obvious they had the worst of it in the next set.
and only a fool would quit after one set if he believed he had the best of it whether he won or lost the last set.

I used to gamble a lot in my younger years. Gradually taking some up to 50 or 100 bucks by the end of the night was ok, but when you offered them a chance to get their money back on the last game of the night playing double or nothing and then running the table on them would make lots of enemies.
These days I stick to tournaments since I'm to old for bar fights. lol

Funnily enough, when people have lots of spare money... They gamble
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. My sales pitch was always, "whatever is comfortable " when we were at that stage of the Conversation. McGoorty spoke of the wealthy paying for recreation. I play for recreation. 🤷‍♂️
Keeping customers favors Good sales presentations. Now a days finding customers is....another story. 🤷‍♂️ 😉
