NorthEast pool-room updates?

Seeing how the billiard industry is an another downturn (I'm 90% sure it's mostly due to smoking ban at least in my area, as I know of 2 pool rooms that had to close within a year or 2 after that went into effect in MA, and several more are strugling with almost 50% of customers gone), how is the rest of the area going? I think I read Amsterdam closed a location, is that true? Chelsea in NY is another one that I read closed. I think that's the place wher we had our RSB tourney, from what I recall they had a few snooker tables in the front, was a multi-level room.

Seems a bit funny how with many room owners I talk to telling me "when the weather gets colder again people start showing up" yet TX and FL, with the warmest climates in the country have thriving pro/semi-pro tours. Anyone have feedback why that would be? What are they doing that the New England can't?

In Florida weather is not a factor as it is very much the same all year. What plays a factor IMHO is that pool rooms get alot of daytime play due to the demographics. A big percentage of the population doesnt work and many of the rest are night shift services workers also. Having steady daytime play, beer etc flows right to the bottom line.

As far as tours in Florida, one factor IMHO is the ease of travel. Florida was developed in the time of the automobile and its roads are good, less confusing to naviagte making road trips that much easier. Most everything is either straight up/down 95 or on the West Coast on RTe 19 with Capones the exception making it probably the toughest trip with the lack of Hotels in the immediate area another factor.

Just some thoughts which are probably not too common
