Not a pool room but a Billiards men's club.

Google "Chattanooga Billiards Club". It is a great place similar to what you're describing. I love the cigar room. Might be something to add to the dream.

It might have a good chance as a Men's Game Club. Kind of a central man's cave...with an attractive hostess.

Pool is just one game. There has to be plenty of other offerings so there are options during busy times. Poker, darts, chess, backgammon, etc.

I would definitely do tournaments among the members; it keeps people interested in renewing their membership.

You have to carefully control guest usage. Something like $20 guest fee and no more than 4 guest visits per month; otherwise you get lots of "guests" who should really be members

Would that 20 guest fee be a one day thing?

Chattanooga billiard club is not private - there is a cigar shop downstairs but the pool room is not private at all

Yes, but I was just throwing out a number. It really comes down to whatever the "members" think is a fair fee. The objective is to discourage double-dipping free-loaders.

I think about 20% of the monthly fee would be about right. That way even if a local guy wants to visit 3-4 times a month with a member, he'd be about even if he just got his own membership.

We could make it non profit

And call it the Historic Billiards and Gaming Society. Then we could do fundraisers to buy/maintain equipment.

Then we could set up local chapters

Best thing would be if we could get people to donate us a building for a tax write off.

I always thought of these places as being ran by people who had other lucrative business's. Sure money is being made, but I can''t imagine what your describing as being a real source of income. Maybe split a large room in two with one side being for the members, with slightly better equipment, and a more serious feel. With the other side being for the casual person walking in off the street, the couple on a date...that sort of thing. It works for Hard Times in CA. And if you get Diamond tables... you might have a shot at something.
