I think going to NY City might be kinda expensive for many USA players i saw a post Corey Deuel made on Facebook about plane tickets costing over $2300.

Travel costs and Hotel and all might just be to expensive you almost have to win the event to make any real money.

I saw Justin Bergman posting something about it too.

All those players in town for the tournament, and all the New York locals.... they wouldn't be able to set up some money matches on the side to cover costs?

From the outside, it just looks like they don't want to support Appleton's venture for whatever reason.

I'm seeing on the WPS website, the first series in January had 119 players, which if I recall is accurate.

Ruslan won $20K for first
Lee Van $8500

WPS #2 in April, I believe entries were in the 80's and full field would've been 96.

Klenti won $12K for first. It was advertised as full-field $14K 1st, $7K 2nd.
LeeVan won $3K for the Kamui challenge. Advertised as $4K for full-field.

I'm thinking svb would rather go ice fishing (probably while he still can) than to break from the side box in 8 ball. The rules really stop players from running racks. In this format Shane would be just one among many contenders whereas in winner break from anywhere, he'd probably be the top with his break. He's a normal top player when playing alternate break, but not many can catch a gear like Shane playing winner break. I'm sure he's done more, but I've seen him run an 8 pack against earl.

American players can DRIVE there - they know they have NO chance of winning or really cashing in the event. American pool is dead. To be honest, I'm glad all that dead $$$$ wasn't there - it cheapens the event.

And go

You said it all!

Fear is a big deterrent.

I cant see that..,

He's the best in world, I cant see him backing down if the rules don't favor him. He might have needed some R&R or some other reason, but I doubt if the rules matter so much that he wouldn't make a play for the cash, at least I hope not.

Well that cant be it.

I cant see how the expenses could be that out of wack if you planned in advance? If a few of the guys got a hotel suite together or split the travel cost?

$500 entry fee.....need to be in the last eight to break even....maybe.

Unlike golf, pool creates a lot of losers...just not enough money in pool.

But the strange thing is...USA is still the best country in the world to be a pool player.
..when the last 32 start to show a profit....the game will get a lot better.

SVB is probably playing some billionaire $50,000 set's while laughing at all of us.:D

You might be onto something here, much cheaper for all the non-Americans to come play in it.

As already stated he was playing a BB event in the carolinas. Dont know how it turned out, but Sky ran him over when they played

I still believe that somewhere along the line Pool will get a bump that will make it worth while beyond the Love of the game. Who knows maybe some of the over seas companies might start partnering to host the events as a world wide competition and rise the prize Money along with the audience.

Wishful..,

Driving to NY City is no cake walk try driving half way across the country and when you get to NY dealing with the killer traffic jams toll fees everywhere and outrageous parking cost.

Over a third of the field was Americans with out that dead money the field would have been really short and the payouts much less.

Not really sure how many of those USA players had a legit shot at winning prolly 4 or 5 maybe.

I hope so too....I would like to see at least the top hundred players in the world making a
good living....you don't get that situation by continuously bankrupting most pros.

And that's what the game needs....big money sponsors instead of the pool world eating its own.

Golf caught a break...the old time pro I worked for when I was a kid had no shot at
becoming a millionaire...but the next generation did.

Snooker caught a big break in 1977, when Mike Watterson, a Benz salesman, mortgaged
his house, rented the Crucible in Sheffield, THEN went to potential sponsors and said...
..."Here's what we can do for you."

More like zero, unless you count Shaw, Darren and Mika as americans now. And Mika had no shot.

People flew here from other countries.

Meanwhile, show up and just completely dog it at the masters and make 8 triple bogies your last round, come in 50th place and get a cool 28k lol. Players absolutely dogging their brains out mid round today and getting like 15th get a measly 200k lol. It's funny you see guys missing putts at the end of those rounds and think nothing of it but they are like 10 and 20 thousand dollar single putts, or it could even be up to a million dollar single putt as we had today when Justin missed on the 17th (potentially anyway). Just amazing. Good for them I think they're worth it, pool will hopefully catch up one day in the distant future.
