I am interested in hearing anyone's ideas as to maximizing the player's experience at the Fury 14.1 Challenge next year.

Also just any ideas in general would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and before any of you decide to get cute better commentary is NOT a Valid option lol.

Thanks

Run Count Display

How about a digital numeric display (think NBA shot clock above the backboard) of the number of balls the current shooter is on. The scorekeeper will need a remote control to advance the number after each ball and to zero it out after a miss. It would be very helpful to the spectators. Maybe even a dual display - one side for current run and the other side for total. It would serve as a good communication device and increase the understanding of what's going on to the people watching.

Next Year

Charlie:
I am going to do my best to attend next year. I really want to meet everyone. When I was younger, I was shy growing up and in college. I always did my research on professors who wanted oral reports in their classes. Those professors, I did not sign up for...... So, I can not help you out at all with the commentary......... LOL

PS: a small score board is a great idea.

Charlie, I noticed in the Daya/Varner match there was no referee and they were racking for each other and responsible for calling their own shots and fouls. I think the matches would be that much more "official" with a referee. I would be more than happy to referee/rack for some matches.

In the class poll for our high school yearbook, Winston was voted Most Talkative by the 365 members of our student body - totally serious here, and I can back it up. Not much has changed in the last 25 years, so...

As a referee, I would call out the run count as each ball is pocketed.

This is true. I was also "Most Talkative" in our freshman year book, if you'll remember. As a senior I successfully defended my title.

As I said in another thread, Ron of all people would know that I am never at a loss of words!

I love it all so far and think its a great idea. Lance definitely want you down there in a referee capacity for matches etc. As for commentary there might be a few new things in the works this year and only time will tell.

You got it, Charlie. I formally offer my services as referee. That will be my humble contribution to the event. I am already shaking (with excitement) at the thought of refereeing matches featuring players like Nick Varner, John Schmidt, Dave Daya, Mika, Darren Appleton, etc. It will be an honor to say the least.

We spoke about this briefly a few weeks ago, but I think it would be quite easy to do player reviews of each run - let's say every run over 70 - whatever you deem as a significant run. I believe that marketing the videos - INTERNATIONALLY - would generate an avenue of income that would be substantial - substantial enough to provide booth space - or whatever other expenses you would incur. It wouldn't cover the entire amount, but it would put a dent in the cost.

Also, by distributing and marketing the videos - you can generate more from sponsors that are willing to promote the event. They could be title sponsors - sponsors for the rack - its a one time sponsorship fee to have their logo displayed prominently with the videos. I believe that the sponsors would get a lot of mileage out of that - if you want to set something like this up to market the videos you have from 2010-2011 - I can generate a quick project development chart for your review.

I believe that if we start organizing this now, work as goal oriented team hellbent on producing the best event/events as possible - we could end up setting the standard for the entire industry - and we'll do it with 14.1 continuous.

I also have a few other ideas that I would like to discuss with you off the forum - if you are willing to try some of those ideas, we can work out the details, and present it to the rest of the group.

yes - NO!

I'm talking about during the 3 days of qualifying. People walk up to a crowd around the tables and have no idea what's going on - if Schmidt or Appleton or Kurtz or Eames is on his first rack or his fourteenth rack. A digital display would be cheap and very helpful.
