hey thought I might let anyone thinking about trying the new ob-1 shaft know how awesome they play. I recieved my shaft custom fitted to my cue by Wayne Holmes a well known local cue maker last night at my favorite pool room as league was getting started, hit a couple balls and passed it over to the best player in our league mr. Killough to hit a few . He's top level 9 or rarely 8 in apa 9 ball and I'am a 7, he beat me a few weeks ago only letting me kick a few times and held me to 40 balls less than the 55 I needed so I had to try him again. Using a new shaft at 12.75 mm instead of my usual 314 at 11.25 mm I kept him racking and at high point had him 45 to 14 broke made a ball had to kick the one hit it but left a shot he ran out those 9 points and I ended the score my favor 55 to 26 for a 18 to 2 score. Do you think I like that shaft? I think from everyones that tried it sounds like 3 or 4 will be ordered, the thing looks great and has lifetime warranty priced about same or less than 314 predator so do yourself a favor and hit a few with 1 if you get a chance. I am going to order another for the team captain my straight shootin wife......

Your 314 is 11.25mm? Is that how far you turned it down? Isn't that well past Perdators specs? If so maybe that was what holding you back.

I'm glad someone else said something first, but that was glaring out at me also. Warranty only goes to 12.25mm but I would think that the 314 at that diameter would crumble can't be much wood left at the tip end of the shaft.

Anybody else with any insight?

314 predator

yea it got that way through time but it also had a 3 or 4 inch dowel with a much better ferrule than factory predator and still plays great all I am saying is hit with ob-1 if you get a chance, I think youll see what I mean.

Ahh that explains it, well I had thought about it when they first came out, but I've been playing with Predator for about 5 years, first 3 with the 314 the last 2 with the Z and I'm shooting the lights out. I actually blew my tip last weekend at a tournament and put my 314 on that I keep as a backup just for emergencies and initially I was missing shots that I routinely make without thinking about it. So I won't be switching anything except selling my 314 and getting another Z to backup the Z.

Good luck though:)

I just got mine in the mail today and am looking forward to trying it out this evening. My shaft was a little slow in getting here because Royce caught his hand in a router and had to go to the hospital for surgery. He said the good news is that they expect he will regain full use of his finger. If anyone else out there is waiting for one, this is probably why it is slow in getting there. I haven't played with the shaft yet, but I did hit a cue ball with it a couple of times on my shaft-testing apparatus (an ironing board shoved against the wall with a pillow at on the end against the wall.) It feels/sounds really solid. I also weighed the shaft and it weighs 3.4 ounces. A little lighter than most of my shafts, but that's OK. I'll report on the shaft again after I've played with it.

Have you or anyone else for thet matter ever compared the weight of a 314 to stock. Mine is definately lighter, but I don't have asensitive scale to measure. I'd definately say it is lighter in the front end because when I do the ol balance test it results in less mass in the front.

Weighed my 314 and OB 1 shafts that are both 5x16 x 14 with black collar and silver ring. The 314 weighs 3.5 oz and the OB 1 weighs 3.7 oz. The OB is slightly heavier.

I weighed my 3/8 x10 OB 1, black collar and silver ring and it weighs 3.4 oz.

I hit balls with it for about an hour and let several other players hit a few with it. The first thing I noticed was that it had a more solid feel/sound than the Predator shaft I normally play with. I think it is the same tip diameter (12.75 mm) as the Predator. It seems to spin the cue ball as well as a Predator. I'm not that good at judging deflection, so I can't comment about that from my hour of play, but I have read that the OB-1 is a low deflection shaft. The other players who hit with it all liked it, and one of them spontaneously commented on how solid it felt. Overall, I can say I like the shaft, but I'm not ready to abandon my Predator just yet. I'll spend more time with the OB-1 this coming week and give it a better test.

cant play now

As described in to much length I had a great first night with new ob-1 so couldn't weight to play again tommorow so what happens? I fell in my empty swimming pool this morn hurt shoulder pretty bad and I have APA citi tournament this week, hope massage therapy this evening helps so I can keep that awesome feeling of shooting with ob-1

Has anyone tried breaking with the OB-1? Of course I would probably only play with it. I tried one in Vegas at the BCA tourney and would have purchased but I need an unfinished shaft to use with my Hunter Classic. My only concern would be the wooden laminated ferrule. Other than that I was really impressed how solid it played.
