OB Classic + Tip Question

Right know I have three Classic + shafts. One has an Ultra skin med on it. It's hard to keep the ferule clean. It's keeps getting a brownish black sticky residue on it. The other had a Kamui black med. on it and the same thing was going on. The last one still wears the Tiger Everest tip on it and it leaves a light brown color residue. My question is is it the tips or are the OB ferules hard to keep white. Also thinking of trying a Tiger Sniper on the second shaft to see how it plays. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks. I've got a Classic + on my cue with the original tip and I'm not seeing the issue you are describing. May want to contact OB, I haven't had to as yet but read nothing but good things about their service.

Just a data point for you.
 
LBM ferrules are by their nature almost impossible to keep white. Chalk will get into the pores in your ferrule.
Next time you change tip, ask your repairman to clean your ferrule and seal it with superglue, that`s your best bet.
 
I really like Snipers but the trick to cutting them is keeping them wet throughout
the process. Another tip that gets lambasted on AZ but I really think plays great
is the Predator tip. I've had only there mediums installed on several guys shafts
and every single person has raved about these tips. Both tips play awesome
but if you choose the Predator, make sure you get one of there latest.
At the beginning I heard they had some issues with there tips but as of late,
there back on track.
 
I only shoot with OB shafts on all my cues. Never had a problem with them getting dirty. I don't think it's the tip you're using ;) Hint Hint :thumbup:
 
No. They ARE very porous, get dirty, and STAY dirty. The advice on cyo-sealing is about the only way to keep them clean.
 
I do not have a problem with any of the 3 OB shafts that I have. 2 have Kamui tips & 1 has a G2.

I can only guess that you are doing something that is causing your issue.

I clean mine with just a touch of a car cleaning product that has carnauba wax in it & then I burnish them including the ferrule with a piece of brown paper bag.

A very good player in my area just a couple of weeks ago notice my cue & when he put it in his hands he immediately commented how smooth my shaft was.

I've had them for several years & they all look like brand new with no 'blueing' or whatever.

Are you using something odd to clean your shaft that might be causing the tanning of the tip to dissolve?

Burnishing the wax probably has same effect as cyo-sealing. When this topic was first mentioned, OB cues said themselves that the ferrules had a tendency to get dirty. They referred to using the cyo method. If you take a brand new OBClassic and start playing you will get the ferrule pretty dirty unless treated in some way. I like your idea,btw. What kind of auto-wax did you use or does just need to be carnuba?
 
It's Armor All Ultra Shine Wash & Wax Detailer fortified with real Carnauba Wax.

It's in a spray bottle & I only use a very small amount just to lightly clean the shaft & I wipe it down after to remove as much as might be left on & then I wait a bit to make sure that it is dry & then I burnish it with cuts of brown paper form bags.

I am in New Orleans so it can get muggy & if it starts to get any hint of getting sticky I just take out a dollar bill & give it a couple of passes after a dry wipe with a paper napkin.

I know that that that might be sealing in some chalk dust but the detailer seems to break down the seal & let it clean off & then I am burnishing a very clean shaft.

It's worked great for over 5 years.

I use Mothers carnauba wax then I too buff with a brown grocery bag. I will take it to my repairman and have him seal it. Thanks a lot for the suggestions. Michael
