ob + cue shafts firm/crisp hit vs quiet/soft

is this a difference in personal preference or type of play (straight pool versus 9 ball)???
I play with a predator 314-2 presently and want a change. looking at the ob plus line of shafts and looking for some direction from those in the know. I tried the ob classic shaft with a crisp hit and liked it but they did not have the "plus" line in stock yet. while I love the 14. game it is hard to find someone else at the local pool hall that wants to play. I settle for 9 ball most of the time and sometimes 8 ball. would the "hit" matter on which game or a personal preference?

Most devoted 14.1 players that I know or have ever played with, used plain maple 1-piece shafts. Thus, they seem to prefer the crisp hit of the "Classic" or "Pro" line of OB shafts -- myself included. (BTW, I haven't tried the "Plus" line of shafts just yet -- basing my opinion and experience on the existing "pre-Plus" laminated product only.)

I don't think the "hit" matters much if you find yourself crossing over into different games. It's more of a personal preference -- the cue ball get hit the same way with the same stroke. It's only the feedback you prefer.

okay, thanks, I really liked the crisp hit "feel" so will probably go that direction. I miss the feel from my old one piece that I accidentally left in the overhead bin of a plane and that was the end of that! had it for more than 20 years and haven't shot the same since losing it! :frown:

I am always the first person to advocate OB but have you tried changing the tip on your 314 to a hard one? Often the tip has as much or more of an impact on the feel of the cue as it hits the ball.

tried a kamui clear medium that after many hours of play has changed to a hard tip (some glazing too). I do not like the hit right now therefore want a change hopefully for the better. :thumbup:
