Anyone give the new ob jump cue a test run. I wanted to and just didn't get an opportunity.

I tried both of them at the SBE. For a guy that doesnt jump much, it was very easy getting the job done. Nice balance and weights. Definitely better than my NG01 j/b.

If I were to get one, i'd get the one with the 2 piece butt.

I purchased one at the SBE after a few test shots. I was using the 42" cuetec for a while with the phenolic tip, but I've been looking at getting a jumper with an extension.

The Ob jumps very nice compared to the cuetec. What sold me on the cue was the tip. I don't know exactly what it is, but it grabs the ball very well for adding english on the jump. See Royce's comment below for info about the tip. I'm still getting used to it and I accidentally masse'd around on object ball after a clean jump in a league game the other night.

I'm happy with it so far after a few days of use. If you have and particular questions I'll try to answer them.

By the way, just wanted to say it was a pleasure dealing with the guys from OB as usual.

We did launch our new jump cue at the SBE. It was very well received and we pretty much sold out of what we had.

The OB Jump cue comes in two models, The OB Lift, and the OB Lift Pro.

http://www.obcues.com/

The OB lift is a 2 piece jump cue (1 piece butt), that is 41" together. The OB lift is a 3 piece jump cue (2 piece butt) that is 41" without the extension, and 47" with the extension.

Both come with the OB Jump shaft, which is a solid maple shaft fitted with a special version of our laminated OB ferrule. They also have our OB Jump Tip. The tip is made from phenolic, but it differs than others because it doesn't have the canvas or linen substrate normally associated with phenolic.

Both cues make it easy to get over the object ball but also have other features designed to help the player be more accurate. It's a unique combination of the ferrule and the tip that help to reduce the squirt caused by an off center hit as well as help to reduce some of the unnecessary bouncing of he cue ball. Both of which will add to the success of most jump shots.

Steve Lomax is a good friend of mine, and makes some of the best cues out there. He's known for his jump cue, and it's as good a jump cue as there is. Although Steve didn't specifically design our jump cue, I'd be wrong to say that he didn't have an influence. I've known Steve for many years, and we talk almost daily about cues, pool, and just about everything else. I respect his opinion a lot.

Congrats Royce!

OB takes the cake for the first advertised "Production" jump cue (with extension) that was specifically designed to be a well made jump cue. Although I haven't tried it out, it looks like you guys put some thought into it and having Steve as a friend doesn't hurt! lol

Interesting that this uses a lightweight ferule. I have a Jacoby jump cue that uses a brass ferule, presumably for added weight in the tip area, and it jumps very easily. Have you studied the effect of weight at the tip on jump cues? Now I want to try one just to see how it compares since they seem like opposite approaches.

Jump cues tend to have a harder tip instead of just regular leather. A majority of the tips are phenolic resin, the same material pool balls are made out of, or some other type of hard plastic.

Would like to see OB Cues releases a Jump/Break that combines the OB Lift and OB Break in one cue. Not sure if is possible to take the strengths from both sides and put into one, but I surely would be interested in buying an all around J/B and have one less cue in my case.

Am I alone on this?

Well alone maybe not.. but I'm not with you. I haven't found one that is good at both. The sledge hammer was the closest. They are both something that needs to be a separate focused cue in my opinion. I only carry one shaft for my playing cue and one for my break cue. The butt and shaft of my jump cue fit in the two spots I have left for shafts so it's no big deal.

Yeah, so far I'd say Sledgehammer and X-Breaker (R.I.P.) were the best combos I used. Ironically, the X-Breaker was probably better for jumping than breaking.

I too would be interested if OB released a break/jump combo.

I to would like to know how they stack up with jacoby. That's currently what I use because of all the ones I've tried and was not able to lift the cue ball with I pick up a jacoby and with in minutes not only am I jumping but I'm making balls! I would like to hear from people who have tried both. If OB us better ill have my jacoby for sale.

Pretty good jump cue. There were a lot of decent jump cues this year. One IMO stood out. But all were pretty good.

Thanks Royce, and the feelings are mutual! Just to let everyone know, I didn't teach OB cues how to build their jump cue. As Royce said, we are good friends and do talk on a daily basis just about everything. Royce has been a great help to me for several years. I tried his new jump cue at the Expo and it works. I wish him all the best with the new jump cue, with everything elsehe does and I will help in any way I can. Royce, thanks for being a true friend !
