Some of you may or may not remember chiming in your thoughts on a post I had a while back trying to decide whether to go with a new OB or a Rat cue. A friend and I both went in and bought one or the other and side by side it's hard to say which I like better but both I like for different reasons.
The only thing I have at home to compare the OB to is my McDermott G201 with the G core shaft which is a great cue for the money I loved it.
I've adopted CJ Wiley's TOI (Touch Of Inside) system and it worked very well playing with my McDermott, when I first switched to the OB with the OB2 it was quite a shock because I couldn't make anything to save my life. The main reason is that I need time to adjust to the lower deflection of the OB2 shaft vs the Gcore which will come with time.
Onto the cue it's self though, The OB130 is a Birdseye maple butt sleeve with small floating points of what I believe is ebony if my memory serves me properly. It's very simple but the choice of wood for the forearm and butt sleeves make it stand out, they are both beautiful.
The cue plays very well, for such a small diameter shaft the OB2 is surprisingly stiff where as my Gcore was a little bit on the whippy side on some shots. I do notice that there isn't a whole lot of feedback in my grip hand which I assume is thanks to the foam in the end of the shaft. It's not a bad thing but it is different than what I am used to which was a little bit unnerving at first. Again my problem not the cue.
I did a few deflection tests side by side with my friend's Rat and both cues performed very well, I'm not sure what shaft he put on but I know it wasn't an OB like my own. My McDermott wasn't the least deflecting cue out there but it was a cadillac compared to what I first started playing with.
Overall I love my OB, I do need to take some time to adjust to it which is pushing me to the practice room more. I ordered it through Seyberts.com and paid just a touch over 500 after having the kamui black soft tip upgrade and shipping. which is very fair, I believe it was 460 or so with no upgrades. I would highly reccomend it to anyone who is more familiar with low deflection shafts. Anyone who like myself has not taken the dive to something high end yet I would say go with the OB1 shaft first as it's a little more forgiving than the smaller radius OB2.
